Vikings Rumors: Trade calls about Danielle Hunter have been made
By Adam Patrick
One of the most notable recent Minnesota Vikings rumors reveals that teams from around the NFL have shown interest in trading for Danielle Hunter.
If you love Minnesota Vikings rumors, this is definitely one of the best times of the year for them. One recent Vikings-related rumor has to do with pass rusher Danielle Hunter and the possibility of him being traded to another team in the near future.
On Friday’s episode of SKOR North’s “Purple Daily”, Judd Zulgad reported that Minnesota “has gotten calls” from other teams this year about Hunter and what it might take to acquire him in a trade.
Zulgad also added that he does not know which teams have contacted the Vikings about their star pass rusher, and he doesn’t know if Minnesota is willing to even consider dealing him to another team this offseason.
Vikings Rumors: Will Minnesota consider trading Danielle Hunter this year?
In sticking with their theme of getting rid of some of their older players before it becomes too late, it wouldn’t be shocking if Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was willing to listen to what a team might give up in order to acquire Hunter before next season.
A trade right now doesn’t make a ton of sense for Minnesota since they wouldn’t be able to free up any cap space. Trading Hunter would actually erase more than $5.5 million of the Vikings’ current cap space, according to Spotrac, and they’re not currently in a position to be losing cap space at this point in the offseason.
If Minnesota is able to wait until June 1st or later, then trading or releasing Hunter would create $5.5 million in cap space. If the Vikings are going to trade their top pass rusher, waiting until June 1st or after is probably what they will do.
After appearing in only seven games from 2020 to 2021, the 28-year-old Hunter was on the field for all 17 of Minnesota’s games last season. He finished with 65 tackles (12 for a loss), 22 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
