Lamar Jackson is reportedly done with the Baltimore Ravens and ready to play for a new NFL team. Could that team be the Minnesota Vikings?
We shared a story the other day about ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler labeling the Minnesota Vikings a “wild card” to land current Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason.
Based on a number of different factors, Jackson ending up with the Vikings this year still seems pretty unlikely. However, his situation with the Ravens is certainly something that Minnesota should keep an eye on if they truly do have any interest in acquiring him this offseason.
Well, on Tuesday, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported that he’s heard from multiple sources that a representative for Jackson has contacted several NFL teams this year to let them know that the quarterback is “ready to move on from the Ravens.”
Minnesota Vikings quietly preparing to acquire Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson?
If Jackson really is ready to leave Baltimore, there’s a chance that the Vikings already know this, and based on a recent tweet from KSTP’s Darren Wolfson on Tuesday, Minnesota might be potentially getting ready to make a significant roster move in the near future.
Considering the Vikings likely wouldn’t be able to move on from Kirk Cousins until after June 1 in order to avoid a significant salary cap impact, whatever the team is doing behind the scenes right now probably doesn’t have anything to do with Jackson.
But we really just can’t be 100 percent sure about that, can we? Kwesi Adofo-Mensah hasn’t even been Minnesota’s general manager for a full two years yet, but he’s already made multiple unexpected trades during his tenure. So we know he’s not afraid to make a big splash.
At this point, Jackson landing with the Vikings still remains unlikely. But the quarterback reportedly wanting to be done with the Ravens should certainly be a good sign for Minnesota if they actually are interested in acquiring the former NFL MVP.
