The Minnesota Vikings are reported to have agreed to terms with a wide receiver who previously spent time with the Los Angeles Rams.

Help is on the way in the wide receiver room of the Minnesota Vikings according to a report from NFL inside and trusted league source Adam Schefter in the form of agreeing to terms with a young player.

According to the ESPN Senior NFL Insider, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell will be reuniting with free agent receiver and special teams player Brandon Powell. The agreement is said to be for one season.

Here is the tweet from Schefter announcing the agreement.

What does this mean for the Minnesota Vikings?

Fans shouldn’t expect Brandon Powell to walk into the Vikings locker room and replace Adam Thielen, but he could be a contributor for Minnesota in more ways than one during the 2023 NFL season.

The 27-year-old Florida product was an undrafted free agent signed by the Detroit Lions in 2018. He made stops with the Falcons, Bills, and Dolphins before finally landing with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

Powell stands five-foot-eight and started six games for the Rams as a wide receiver in 2022 but only saw 32 targets from his quarterback, catching 24 of them for 156 yards, seven first downs, and zero touchdowns,

Special teams is a place where Brandon Powell could carve out a role for the Vikings. He returned both punts and kicks for the Rams last year and could compete with Jalen Reagor for the role of the team’s punt returner in 2023.

As a punt returner, Powell had an electric return in 2021 included among his six return attempts, finding his only Rams touchdown on special teams. He averaged 10.3 yards per punt return in Los Angeles, making him an interesting player to watch.

Congratulations to Brandon Powell on agreeing to terms with the Minnesota Vikings.
