Vikings drafting a QB in the first round in 2023 is picking up major steam
By Adam Patrick
Some of the most notable draft analysts have the Minnesota Vikings using their first-round pick on a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft.
After the week kicked off with NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah predicting the Minnesota Vikings to select former Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, a number of recent mock drafts have followed the same train of thought.
Since Jeremiah’s mock draft was released on Tuesday, five other notable mock drafts from NFL.com, Fox Sports, CBS Sports, and The Athletic have been released that have the Vikings using their 2023 first-round pick on a quarterback.
Hooker was the selection in three of these other mocks and former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis was who ended up with Minnesota in the other two mock drafts.
Why are 2023 mock drafts with the Minnesota Vikings picking a QB becoming more frequent?
Who knows what some of these draft analysts and reporters have been hearing recently, but something appears to have caused them all to believe the Vikings could use their first-round pick on a quarterback this year.
Below is the list of notable 2023 mock drafts that decided to have Minnesota use their first-round selection on a quarterback by either trading up or remaining at pick No. 23.
- Chad Reuter (NFL.com) on 3/24 – Will Levis (Kentucky) at pick No. 10
- Charles Davis (NFL.com) on 3/23 – Will Levis (Kentucky) at pick No. 23
- Greg Auman (Fox Sports) on 3/23 – Hendon Hooker (Tennessee) at pick No. 23
- Chris Trapasso (CBS Sports) on 3/22 – Hendon Hooker (Tennessee) at pick No. 23
- The Athletic Staff (The Athletic) on 3/22 – Will Levis (Kentucky) at pick No. 7
- Daniel Jeremiah (NFL.com) on 3/21 – Hendon Hooker (Tennessee) at pick No. 23
The majority of these six mock drafts cited Kirk Cousins heading into the final year of his contract as a big reason why the Vikings might select a quarterback in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Will Minnesota decide to make a significant step toward their future this year by using their first-round draft pick on a quarterback for the first time since 2015?
