Who are some of the players that the Minnesota Vikings signed during free agency over the years that the fan base might have forgotten about?
For fans of the Minnesota Vikings and every other team around the league, free agency is one of the most exciting parts of each NFL offseason.
Free agency in the league as we currently know it began in 1993, and since then, we’ve seen the Vikings a number of notable players when they became free agents, including Linval Joseph, Visanthe Shiancoe, Chester Taylor, Randall Cunningham, Steve Hutchinson, and Antoine Winfield.
But who are some of the players Minnesota has signed during free agency in the past that aren’t as easy to remember?
Player No. 1
Morten Andersen – K (2004)
To Minnesota fans, Morten Andersen will always be known as the guy who broke the heart of the 1998 Vikings when he kicked a game-winning field goal in the 1998 NFC Championship as a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
But Andersen actually spent a season with Minnesota back in 2004 when the team signed him right before the start of the regular season.
At the age of 44, Andersen spent the entire 2004 campaign as the Vikings kicker, and he ended up converting 81.8 percent of his field-goal attempts (18-for-22), which ranked 15th in the NFL that season.
