In this Minnesota Vikings 2023 NFL mock draft, Dalvin Cook is sent to the AFC East and replaced in the Twin Cities by a third-round selection.
We are now less than a month away from the Minnesota Vikings making their first selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. Currently, the Vikings only have five picks in this year’s draft. So Minnesota will have to get creative if they want to add more than just five prospects to their roster at the end of the month.
One way for the Vikings to acquire additional draft selections this year would be to find a trade partner for running back Dalvin Cook. The writing really appears to be on the wall for Cook’s exit from Minnesota, especially with the re-signing of Alexander Mattison this offseason.
So what might a Vikings draft look like this year if the team is able to find another franchise that is willing to make a deal for Cook?
Dalvin Cook Trade
Minnesota Vikings Receive:
- 2023 Fourth-Round Pick (107th Overall)
- 2023 Sixth-Round Pick (184th Overall)
- 2024 Fourth-Round Pick
New England Patriots Receive:
- Dalvin Cook – RB
With Cook’s 28th birthday coming up in August and a cap hit of around $7.9 million if traded, Minnesota likely won’t be able to find a team that is willing to give up and Day 1 or Day 2 draft selections in exchange for the veteran running back.
The Patriots already have Rhamondre Stevenson at the top of their depth chart, but acquiring another dynamic back like Cook would add a unique element to their offense that someone like Bill Belichick would probably enjoy taking advantage of during each game next season.
