Jayron Kearse, safety
The Minnesota Vikings took Jayron Kearse in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft and got four seasons including 62 games played and five starts out of him before he moved on to the Detroit Lions.
Between the Lions in 2020 and the Cowboys in 2021 and 2022, Kearse has started 36 of his 41 games played. He developed into a solid starting-caliber safety and has put together very solid back-to-back years for the Cowboys.
On the other hand, the Vikings used a first-round draft pick in 2022 on safety Lewis Cine and have struggled to maintain a strong defensive secondary over the past few years. They could have used Kearse if they would have given him more opportunities to prove himself.
Kearse has slowly seen his contributions and his price tag rise as he continues to play well. Considering that he is a good special teams player and has played well as a starter, it’s a bit surprising Minnesota moved on from him at all.
