The Minnesota Vikings had an up-and-down preseason. They only won one of the exhibition games and looked rough at times, yet seemed capable at others. Fans also didn't get to see much of the team's starters, who were either sitting out or recovering from an injury,

Even though there was a lack of star power during the Vikings' preseason, there was plenty to watch for. Many players who attended training camp were fighting for a spot with the purple and gold, making these games pivotal for their futures.

A great preseason will help some Minnesota Vikings players make the team, while others who struggled to make a positive impression could be left off the team.

Vikings winner No. 1: Zavier Scott, running back

There might not be a bigger winner this preseason than running back Zavier Scott. He looked like a capable rusher and receiver while also showcasing his ability to handle kickoff returns. The roster spot behind Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason seems to be wide open, and Scott made a great case to be the RB3 for the Minnesota Vikings in 2025.

Vikings loser No. 1: Sam Howell, quarterback

When the Vikings traded for Sam Howell during the 2025 NFL Draft, the instant expectation was that he would be Minnesota's backup to J.J. McCarthy for the season. However, he looked rough during training camp and the preseason, particularly against the New England Patriots. There's a chance he could go from a potential QB2 to not even being on the roster when Week 1 rolls around.

Vikings winner No, 2: Levi Drake Rodriguez, defensive line

When the Vikings traded Harrison Phillips to the Jets, many fans' jaws hit the ground. However, Minnesota likely felt comfortable doing that because of the potential of young defensive linemen like Levi Drake Rodriguez, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Elijah Williams, and Taki Taimani. Those guys should be capable behind the starters and could be a great investment in the future.

Vikings loser No. 2: Ty Chandler, running back

After three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, the team knows what they have in running back Ty Chandler. Although he has looked good at times in the past, this preseason did nothing to support his case for the 53-man roster. Young, hungry rushers outperformed him in the preseason, and he could find himself not making the cut.

Vikings winner No. 3: Max Brosmer, quarterback

Minnesota liked enough of what they saw from quarterback Max Brosmer to make him a priority free agent signing after he went undrafted. He looked good throughout the preseason and should be in the conversation to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, with his floor being the Vikings' practice squad.
