Eyebrows raised throughout the Minnesota Vikings fanbase earlier this week when it was revealed that free-agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings was visiting with the team to negotiate a possible contract.

Jennings reportedly met with the Vikings on Tuesday and Wednesday and many assumed that the two sides would be able to find a way reach an agreement on a deal.

However, no signing with Minnesota has been announced yet, and on Thursday, KSTP's Darren Wolfson shared some details about the veteran wide receiver's visit to the Twin Cities.

"So, Jauan Jennings has come and gone.

He is no longer in town. It doesn't mean a deal can't still take place, but they did not wrap up negotiations on Wednesday. Talks ongoing. It's not like the Vikings are moving on

..I'm told the visit went well. And hey, it could still absolutely happen.”

Has the ship already sailed on Jauan Jennings signing with the Minnesota Vikings?

Wolfson did share that his sense is that the Vikings probably offered Jennings a one-year contract, and the receiver was hoping for a multi-year deal instead.

That doesn't mean that Jennings to Minnesota is no longer a possibility, it might just take a little more time to get a contract done than previously anticipated.

The Vikings are going to pick up some additional cap space after June 1st, so perhaps after that is when they'll be able to present Jennings with a deal that he is more open to agreeing to.

If Minnesota is able to sign him this offseason, he would be a huge upgrade over Jalen Nailor, who was the team's WR3 last year. Nailor fit in well with the Vikings, but his production in the last two seasons isn't anything close to what Jennings was able to do with the 49ers during the same time period.

Compared to Nailor since the start of the 2024 season, Jennings has caught 75 more passes (132 to 57) for 760 more receiving yards (1,618 to 858) and five more touchdowns (15 to 10).

Minnesota adding Jennings as its new No. 3 receiver is a no-brainer decision. For now, though, it seems like both sides still just have to figure out a contract that will make everyone happy.
