Aaron Rodgers to Vikings rumors are about to get even hotter

It's happening isn't it?

Let's all be honest: Daniel Jones news, in a vacuum, isn't that interesting. In case you forgot because you had literally anything better to do with your time than focus too much on late-season practice squad QB news, Jones joined the Vikings for a brief December cameo last season in the hopes that he could be this year's Sam Darnold. (What a sentence.)

And now Jones' watch has ended. In the world's most meh bit of Vikings news, it was reported on Tuesday morning that Jones was headed to the Colts on a one-year, $13 million. He'll apparently push last year's starter Anthony Richardson for the QB1 job in Indy, which speaks a bit to how dire things are over there.

For the Vikings, the Jones move doesn't mean a whole lot on the surface – it's not like he was going to ever play meaningful snaps for them. What it does mean, however, is that we can now get even deeper into this offseason's most chaotic speculation: Aaron Rodgers in a Vikings jersey.

Daniel Jones' departure from Minnesota paves the way for an Aaron Rodgers signing

With Jones now off the Vikings' roster, that leaves them with one (1) single QB who only has one (1) good knee currently. And maybe JJ McCarthy is absolutely the real deal and puts the knee stuff behind him to immediately become their franchise QB! But also, that's a lot to ask anyone in their rookie season, and McCarthy has always been viewed as more of a project than a pro-ready, Day 1 QB.

But you know who *is* pro-ready? Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers has been pro-ready for, like, 20 years. And I know that the Brett Favre career track stuff is kinda* (*extremely) played out at this point, but it's too weird to ignore. It's going to happen. It has to happen. Not only would it finally prove that time is a flat circle, but it'd also now be a decent roster move. Maybe McCarthy is ready, but if he's not, you can do much worse than Rodgers starting the first 10 games of the season; just look at the Colts' plan.

So prepare yourself for even more unfounded Vikings twitter accounts saying what we're all expecting: Rodgers to the Vikings is a sure thing. The rumor mill never disappoints, and my guess is we're in for a wild 12 hours.
