The Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets are headed in opposite directions, and that's something Vikings fans can laugh about.
Any time this fan base can poke fun at Aaron Rodgers, it's a good day.
For the past year and a half, the Jets have essentially done what they could in order to please Rodgers. Whether it be signing or trading for his former teammates, adding coaches he had a relationship with or catering to his preferences, offensively, New York has done it all.
Earlier in the season, New York fired former head coach Robert Saleh in their first major canning, in effort to get things headed in the right direction. Of course, another move they made was to trade for Davante Adams, but still, the Jets are still the same old Jets.
On Tuesday, New York then went out and fired general manager Joe Douglas in their biggest statement yet.
This changes things for the Jets, and in a big way. Now, they will be in the midst of a rebuild, having to hire a general manager and head coach in the same offseason. And, it's highly unlikely that new pairing is going to want to start with a 41-year-old quarterback in Rodgers. The Jets are far from competing.
The Rodgers era, in New York, is effectively over ... which brings us to the Vikings.
Don't look now, but Aaron Rodgers could be a Viking in 2025
The first part of the equation is all but set in stone. Rodgers won't be a Jet in 2025, in all likelihood. Minnesota, on the other hand, has an intriguing quarterback situation at hand.
Sam Darnold will be a free agent and, while the Vikings very well could re-sign him to a rich, one-year deal, he could get looks elsewhere on a multi-year contract with a lesser-talented rookie quarterback class coming up.
More Vikings news:
J.J. McCarthy is the future. However, coming off an ACL tear, Minnesota may not want to rush him, especially considering the quarterback underwent a second knee procedure. This is a team that very well could be looking for another bridge quarterback, even if it meant McCarthy ends up sitting another full season to begin his career.
If sitting behind Rodgers for a few seasons did wonders for Jordan Love, imagine what it could do for McCarthy and an offensive mind like Kevin O'Connell. This isn't as crazy as it sounds, and could work to the Vikings' benefit.
Brian Flores is a future head coaching candidate if the right situation presented itself, but if he had the chance to stick in Minnesota another year and watch this organization go all-in on a Super Bowl by bringing in Rodgers ... see what I'm saying?
Sure, there are Vikings fans who are nearly vomiting right now. Just the thought of Rodgers in purple and gold is enough to send the fan base into hysteria.
But, whether or not the fans are able to get behind the idea is irrelevant. Everything is adding up to this making complete and total sense.
