Last month, the Minnesota Vikings, in partnership with Minnesota Sports and Events and U.S. Bank Stadium, officially submitted a bid to host the 2028 NFL Draft in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter shared that the 2028 draft is reportedly expected to be rewarded to Minneapolis after a vote by owners during this week's league meetings in Orlando, Florida.
This year's NFL Draft was, of course, hosted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in 2027, the league's annual event will take place in Washington, D.C. After that, the NFL Draft will reportedly happen in the city that the Vikings have called home since 1961.
Minnesota Vikings set to join NFC North rivals as a host of the NFL Draft
With Monday's report from Schefter, the Vikings will now become the fourth and final member of the NFC North to have the NFL Draft hosted in their home city.
Chicago hosted the event in both 2015 and 2016, Detroit was the host city in 2024, and the NFL Draft was held in Green Bay in 2025. After 2028, every team in the NFC North will have had the opportunity to welcome hundreds of thousands of football fans to their home city for the NFL Draft.
This will be the first major NFL event to be held in Minneapolis since the 2017 season when Super Bowl LII between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles was played inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
That event was certainly bittersweet since the Vikings' 2017 season ended with them falling just one game short of playing in the Super Bowl inside their home stadium. Minnesota getting the chance of playing in a Super Bowl for the first time since 1976 inside a building full of their own fans would have been incredible.
But that's in the past and now Minneapolis, U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Vikings will begin preparations to show off their city to the rest of the league once again in 2028 when the NFL Draft comes to town.
