The NFL can be a game of musical chairs for some players trying to find a long-term home. While some players find one team and stick around for a long time, others can find themselves playing for multiple teams in a short period of time.
It can feel odd seeing a former Minnesota Vikings suiting up for another team. Sometimes fans can get attached to a player and then feel a bit strange when they're in another team's uniform when they used to wear purple and gold.
Another former Vikings player has landed with the Commanders
The Vikings have shuffled their roster quite a bit over the past couple of years. Now, it's not surprising to see a former Minnesota contributor with a different franchise or even multiple former players in the same place.
Recently, the Washington Commanders claimed wide receiver K.J. Osborn off waivers and will have the opportunity to catch passes in the nation's capital. Now, he will have another former Minnesota player joining him on that roster.
The official website of the Washington Commanders announced that on Friday, they signed kicker Greg Joseph to their practice squad. Most recently, he kicked for the New York Giants but was placed on IR with an oblique injury and waived in November.
Before that, he spent three seasons as the kicker of the Minnesota Vikings. During that time, he connected on 83 of his 101 field goal tries and 112 of his 124 extra point attempts, scoring 361 total points.
The 30-year-old kicker will need something to happen with current Washington starting kicker Zane Gonzalez for an opportunity to move up to the 53-man roster. Currently questionable for Week 15 with a foot injury, it's possible Joseph's next opportunity could be right around the corner.
Gonzalez was a full participant in Thursday and Friday practices, meaning he could be good to go for Sunday's game against the Saints. However, if he is unable to play, expect the Commanders to elevate Greg Joseph to the 53-man roster to handle kicking duties.
Heading into Week 15, the Washington Commanders are in the playoff picture. They are sitting in the third and final Wild Card spot and the No. 7 position in the NFC with an 8-5 record. To round out the season, they have games against the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Dallas Cowboys on their schedule.
