Following a forgettable 2024 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, there is a significant amount of uncertainty surrounding where former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will be playing next season.

Recently, Sports Illustrated's Connor Orr shared some early 2025 bold predictions for all 32 teams in the league, and he included one that involves Cousins signing with a team in the AFC East.

"The Dolphins will sign Kirk Cousins, and he’ll eventually wrest the starting job away from Tua Tagovailoa during the 2025 season."

Former Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins signing with the Miami Dolphins makes a little bit of sense

After sharing the initial part of his prediction about the former Minnesota quarterback signing with the Dolphins, Orr explained why he could actually be a good fit in Miami's offense next season.

"Cousins is a coveted asset among the Shanahan-ites for his decisiveness and processing skills. Much like Aaron Rodgers coming off the broken thumb finale in Green Bay, Cousins is a bit of a distressed asset who, in my opinion, still has some good football ahead of him.

Unlike the Falcons, Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins can find a way to work him into the dynamic run game."

Cousins has always been viewed as a perfect fit for the Shanahan offense, so it shouldn't be totally shocking that Orr has him signing with Miami to work with head coach Mike McDaniel, who was previously employed by the San Francisco 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

But, while Cousins might be a good fit for the Dolphins' offensive scheme, would he be willing to sign with a team this year where he wouldn't even get a chance to compete for the No. 1 quarterback job before the start of the season? Cousins hasn't been a backup since 2014, so it would seem like a huge change in mentality for the veteran signal-caller if he signed with Miami.

Making a move like this could also alter the confidence of Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who the team just signed to a four-year, $212.4 million extension last summer. Adding a veteran quarterback who is viewed more of a backup would likely be a better option for Miami instead of adding someone who will be wanting to take Tagovailoa's starting job.

But with McDaniel and Dolphins general manager Chris Grier potentially entering the 2025 season on the hot seat, perhaps they might prefer to bring someone in like Cousins who could either ignite a competitive fire under Tagovailoa to help him get back to the Pro Bowl form he had in 2023 or be someone Miami can turn to if Tagovailoa struggles during the first half of the 2025 campaign.

The Dolphins haven't really been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Cousins this offseason until now, but they might actually be a team to keep an eye on now.
