New Kirk Cousins trade idea has Vikings fans absolutely losing it

As the Minnesota Vikings continue rolling on with the J.J. McCarthy hype train this offseason, one familiar face and former Vikings quarterback is still facing an uncertain future.

Kirk Cousins is at a standstill with the Atlanta Falcons right now, but ESPN's Dan Graziano believes, for some reason, that the Vikings should pursue a trade to reunite with their former starter.

In Graziano's trade proposal, the Vikings send a 2026 fifth-round pick, a 2027 seventh-round pick, and cash considerations in exchange for Cousins to come back to the Twin Cities ... as a backup.

Any and all Kirk Cousins back to the Minnesota Vikings narratives need to be put to rest

Why are we doing this? Is this somehow related to the rumored interest of Aaron Rodgers in the Vikings?

If so, this isn't remotely close. Rodgers wanted to be the starter. The Vikings essentially slammed the door shut. They're rolling with McCarthy, point-blank, period.

Even if Cousins was interested in a reunion, this has "bad idea" written all over it. Just think of the potential controversy.

As soon as McCarthy shows any sign of struggling, we'd hear and see plenty of whispers (which might turn to shouts) for Cousins to unseat McCarthy under center. That's not good for anybody, but especially for the young quarterback.

Minnesota took their guy in the first round last year and is committed to him. Bringing in someone like Cousins is a bad idea, no matter how you spin it.

Oh, but Cousins could come in and accept the backup role!

Nope, it's not happening. Cousins seems like the type of guy who either wants to start or hang up his cleats. Maybe, he'll pull a Joe Flacco and somehow manage to step away from the game while waiting for a phone call (although that's going to be difficult given the state of his contract with Atlanta).

If Cousins was ultimately released, then I'd see his career taking a Flacco-type turn for a bit. But, a trade back to Minnesota?

That's laughable. That type of chatter needs to stop. This is McCarthy's team now -- end of story.
