Everyone has opinions and is entitled to them. Some of the takes you'll hear can be exceptionally bold but a recent opinion shared about a former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver had fans and analysts scratching their heads.

Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel Sr. recently took a shot at Pro Football Hall of Fame pass catcher Cris Carter. He called the Vikings legend "overrated" and insinuated that his legendary status isn't warranted.

"Cris Carter is overrated to be honest. Cris Carter is one of the most overrated cornerbacks to ever come into the NFL or Hall of Fame."

Samuel misspoke about the position Carter played but followed up his statement with the reason for his claim.

"He was a hell of a route runner. He had some of the best hands in football. That's what he was known for, route running and having really good hands."

Minnesota Vikings legend Cris Carter responded to the viral comments from Asante Samuel about him being overrated

Cris Carter responded to Samuel's remarks during an episode of the Fully Loaded podcast. Here is what the former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver had to say:

"You gotta point out the things that were correct. Yes, I was a possession receiver. Absolutely. But the best possession receiver in the history of the game. That's what the numbers say."

The statistics back up Carter. His place in NFL history is cemented because of his accomplishments. He was never regarded as a speedster or deep ball specialist, but he didn't have to be because of the other skills he brought to teams like the Vikings.

"I don't take it as derogatory when people say 'Oh, you're a possession receiver.' That's fine. But alright, who did it better? There's so many fast guys that can't score the football. So, to me, talking about what are you worried about..well, you're worried about me scoring."

The argument went back to Carter's career against Chad Johnson's career. The former Minnesota pass catcher reminded everyone about his ability to score touchdowns consistently and how that helped his teams succeed.

It was interesting of Samuel to defend Johnson by attempting to cut down Carter, but that strategy didn't pay off for the two-time Super Bowl champion. At least now he knows that if he wants to throw some shade at the Minnesota Vikings legend that it will be contested and he better bring more to the table next time.
