Kyler Murray is a polarizing quarterback. The 28-year-old passer was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and has struggled to bring the Arizona Cardinals success or stability since his arrival with the franchise. However, now he is being linked to the Minnesota Vikings after news that he is expected to be released this offseason.
After a dreadful showing in 2025, the Vikings need to upgrade their quarterback room. J.J. McCarthy once again struggled to be healthy and was inconsistent when on the field. Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer weren't much to write home about when Minnesota's starter went down.
Heading into 2026, McCarthy and Brosmer are the only quarterbacks on the Vikings' roster. The team can't feel comfortable in that situation and will look to bring in an experienced starter or at least some competition for the job this offseason.
DeAndre Hopkins had an interesting response involving the Minnesota Vikings to learning about the Arizona Cardinals planning to release quarterback Kyler Murray.
Not everyone is rooting for Kyler Murray to join the Minnesota Vikings, but the quarterback has at least one prominent individual who thinks good things can happen if he ends up in purple and gold during the 2026 NFL season.
Recently, Arizona Cardinals insider and national NFL writer Kyle Odegard shared a photo of Kyler Murray with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on X with this caption:
"Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins were an elite duo. No question in my mind Justin Jefferson would eat with Kyler as his QB."
Hopkins quoted that post and responded by saying this:
"K1 & JJ would be scary!"
To be fair, Justin Jefferson is a scary weapon all by himself. However, the idea of pairing him with an experienced quarterback who might need a change or team to get his groove back is definitely appealing for many Vikings fans who are tired of watching Minnesota's offense struggle to move the ball every week.
With 87 NFL starts under his belt to go with 121 passing touchdowns and over 20,000 passing yards, Murray could help to stabilize the quarterback position in Minnesota while still being young enough to look at as a long-term answer.
Having an amazing target like Justin Jefferon on the offense would make the transition from the Arizona Cardinals to the Minnesota Vikings much easier for Kyler Murray, as would working with a great offensive mind like head coach Kevin O'Connell.
