After putting together another masterclass in free agency this offseason, one would assume that the Minnesota Vikings would have rewarded general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah with a contract extension by now.
However, that hasn't happened yet, and it has some wondering why, especially after the Vikings and head coach Kevin O'Connell agreed to an extension back in January.
With the 2025 NFL Draft less than two weeks from getting underway, one would like to think that Minnesota would want to get a new deal done with Adofo-Mensah sooner rather than later. But based on some recent speculation from a notable voice, it doesn't seem like the Vikings are in much of a rush to extend their current general manager.

During an appearance on KFXN-FM's "Paul Allen Show" on Tuesday, the Minnesota Star Tribune's Ben Goessling was asked if he thought the Vikings would extend Adofo-Mensah before the upcoming NFL Draft at the end of the month. Goessling gave an answer that might not be what most Minnesota fans were looking to hear.
"We're a week out from [the NFL Draft]. I would go with no. Because I think the focus is on other things right now. The focus is on the draft itself."
With the 2025 NFL Draft being so close, this speculation probably shouldn't come as a surprise. But that doesn't mean that it still isn't disappointing to hear.
The Vikings have won 13 or more games in two of their three seasons since hiring O'Connell and Adofo-Mensah in 2022. O'Connell is a great head coach (and he now has the hardware to prove it), but one can easily argue that the team would not have been able to be as successful in the last years without the work of the general manager and the front office too.
People might want to discredit Adofo-Mensah by saying O'Connell's coaching is what has been the main reason for Minnesota's success since 2022. But if this is the case, then O'Connell also deserves blame for not being able to get the most out of guys like Ty Chandler, Ed Ingram, Alexander Mattison, and Jalen Nailor, among others. Blame and praise should go both ways for the Vikings, not just one.
Will Adofo-Mensah have a contract extension before the start of the 2025 NFL season? One would like to think so, but Minnesota's lack of urgency to extend him so far this year allows the uncertainty about his future with the organization to still exist.
