The Minnesota Vikings have quite a few tough roster decisions to make this offseason when it comes to their free agents. However, the team will want to look ahead for possible extensions for players entering the final year of their current deals.
Expectations could be high for the Vikings in 2025 after the purple and gold rallied to a 14-3 record last season. Keeping key contributors around for several years would be smart, especially if they can do it without breaking the bank.
On the other hand, some of these players might not even be on Minnesota's roster when the 2024 NFL season ends. Things like trades, retirements, and cuts could drastically change how the list looks.
Every Vikings player entering the last year of their contract in 2025
As of now, there are 14 players who are scheduled to become free agents after the 2025 NFL season. Here are those players:
Player | Age | FA Type |
---|---|---|
Brian Asamoah, LB | 25 | Unrestricted |
Garrett Bradbury, C | 30 | Unrestricted |
Ty Chandler, RB | 27 | Unrestricted |
Andreew DePaola, LS | 38 | Unrestricted |
C.J. Ham, FB | 32 | Unrestricted |
Ed Ingram, G | 27 | Unrestricted |
Josh Metellus, S | 27 | Unrestricted |
Jalen Nailor, WR | 26 | Unrestricted |
Josh Oliver, TE | 28 | Unrestricted |
Ivan Pace, LB | 25 | Restricted |
Trevor Reid, T | 25 | Exclusive Rights |
Bo Richter, LB | 25 | Exclusive Rights |
Harrison Smith, S | 36 | Unrestricted |
Andrew Van Ginkel, LB | 30 | Unrestricted |
Six starters are on this list, meaning the Minnesota Vikings would either need to bring them back or find a replacement to put in the lineup.
The most notable of those is edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel. His 11.5 sacks in 2024 was a career high that earned him an All-Pro Second Team nod and gave him a huge value as a defender and pass rusher.
Safety Harrison Smith is an interesting name on the list. He and long snapper Andrew DePaola are getting older and could be ready for retirement soon. Both have been great assets to the team, but eventually all good things come to an end.
The offensive line is going to need to find some bodies. Starting center Garrett Bradbury and former starting guard Ed Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents. Neither should be a top priority to bring back after disappointing play makes them replaceable.
Josh Metellus has become a Swiss Army knife for Minnesota and it would be shocking to see the Vikings move on from him if Brian Flores is still the team's defensive coordinator. He also seems to really love the locker room and culture, making this a deal that has to get done.
Figuring out what to do with C.J. Ham is going to be tough. In a league where most teams don't use a fullback, having a blocking specialist take up a roster spot will all depend on if head coach Kevin O'Connell sees him as part of the offensive plan going forward.
