Since the Minnesota Vikings were eliminated from playoff contention, there has been a lot of noise about what will happen with defensive coordinator Brian Flores in the offseason.
Flores is in the final year of his contract with the Vikings, and he will be available in the offseason, making him considered the top assistant out there. There are already reports that the Dallas Cowboys might make a massive push to hire Flores.
This has prompted many in the Vikings fan base to call for the team to ensure he doesn't leave the building unless it's for a head coaching job. Former Vikings Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr took to social media to voice his opinion on what Minnesota should do with Flores being a free agent in the offseason.
"viks better give flo a kings ransom"
No Minnesota Vikings fan is going to argue what Anthony Barr said about Brian Flores
Barr knows how good Flores is based on his personal experience of facing off against him and being coached by him. Flores was in his first year as the Vikings' defensive coordinator in 2023, when Barr last played in the NFL, but the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker played only four games for Minnesota.
While the 2025 season has been a bit of a disappointment for Minnesota, Flores and his defensive unit have been incredible. They are currently sixth in the NFL in total defense (292.7 yards allowed per game), third in pass defense (168.8 yards allowed per game), and tied for ninth in scoring defense (20.6 yards allowed per game).
The only thing that has been an adventure for the Vikings' defense has been stopping the run, as they have allowed 123.9 yards per game. That's good for 22nd in the NFL.
The Vikings' defense is coming off one of their best performances of the season after forcing six turnovers in the 23-10 Christmas Day win over the Detroit Lions to knock them out of the playoffs. Despite Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer throwing for under 60 yards, the defense once again came through and helped carry the team.
There's no doubt that Flores is either going to get the head coaching job or is about to become the highest-paid assistant coach in the NFL. If the Vikings were wise, they might want to take Barr's recommendation and work out a deal with Flores before he wanders off to another team in the offseason.
