The Minnesota Vikings have until Tuesday to trim their roster to 53 players. With the preseason over, the team has all the information it needs to make the decisions that will shape the roster for the 2025 NFL season.
Anticipate more releases over the next few days, but for now, the Vikings announced they have parted ways with nine players who were with the team during training camp and the preseason.
The Minnesota Vikings let nine players go on Sunday as part of the effort to trim the roster to 53 players for the 2025 NFL season.
Here are the nine players who were waived or released according to the official website of the Minnesota Vikings.
- Zack Bailey, offensive line
- Travis Bell, defensive line
- Silas Bolden, wide receiver
- Logan Brown, offensive line
- Keenan Garber, cornerback
- Robert Lewis, wide receiver
- Mishael Powell, safety
- Reddy Steward, cornerback
- Tre Stewart, running back
There isn't a shocking name on this list, but it also doesn't include the release of quarterback Brett Rypien, who saw his time with the team come to an end on Sunday. He wasn't part of the list posted on their website.
It does mention that the Vikings traded away quarterback Sam Howell and signed Carson Wentz, as well as noting that Minnesota let go of Rypien and linebacker Cam Gill, along with the nine players on the list.
The Vikings also note that punter Oscar Chapman is part of the International Player Pathway program and has a roster exemption, meaning he will not count toward the 53-man roster limit even if he stays with Minnesota.
Every year, there seems to be one surprise cut that has fans scratching their heads. It hasn't happened this year, but it is definitely something for fans to keep an eye out for. However, Vikings fans did get a minor shock when the team traded defensive lineman Harrison Phillips to the Jets this week.
Minnesota notes that these transactions bring the team to 79 players. Many more difficult decisions will need to be made before the Vikings get to 53 players, since there is a lot of talent on the team, and the Vikings will want to make sure they don't let go of a young player who shows a lot of potential.
