Selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and then cut the following year, linebacker Chazz Surratt was given a chance to continue his pro football career on Wednesday when he agreed to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
With the 49ers, he gets to reunite with San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who was the head coach of the New York Jets when Surratt was a member of that franchise from 2022 to 2024.
Surratt hardly did anything during his brief tenure with the Vikings, and he will most notably be remembered for being one of the three players the team cut in 2022 after selecting them in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Along with the linebacker, Minnesota also drafted quarterback Kellen Mond and offensive lineman Wyatt Davis in the third round of the 2021 draft and then proceeded to cut them in 2022.

While his tenure with the Vikings ended poorly, it's impressive that Surratt has still been able to stick around in the NFL during the last few years.
Last season, he even got the opportunity to start multiple games for the Jets. In 17 appearances with New York in the 2024 campaign, including five starts, Surratt accumulated a total of 28 tackles (two for a loss), two pressures, and one quarterback hit.
The majority of his snaps in the league have been spent on special teams and that could be something that leads him to grabbing one of the 53 spots on the 49ers' final roster this year.
Surratt's NFL career certainly got off to a rough start, but he deserves some praise for finding a role that has allowed him to remain in the league probably longer than anyone was expecting after he was cut by Minnesota in 2022.
