Following everything that happened during the 2025 NFL Draft last week, former Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is already in danger of getting cut by the Miami Dolphins this year.
Back in March, Mattison and the Dolphins agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.34 million. A little less than $1.2 million of the contract is fully guaranteed for the former Vikings running back, so it's not like a spot on Miami's final 2025 roster was a lock before the draft.
However, after the Dolphins decided to use one of their selections in this year's NFL Draft to add another member to their current running back room, Mattison's future with the team became even less uncertain.

Despite Mattison, De'Von Achane, and Jaylen Wright already taking up the top of the team's running back depth chart, Miami decided to use a pick in the sixth round of the recent 2025 NFL Draft on Oklahoma State's Ollie Gordon.
Gordon was once believed to be an early-round draft prospect, but a 2024 arrest and a drop in production during his final college season with the Cowboys caused him to fall all the way to the sixth round last week.
Despite his fall in this year's draft, Gordon is still a very talented running back who could easily surpass Mattison on the Dolphins' depth chart this year. In his final two college seasons, the former Oklahoma State running back rushed for 34 touchdowns and more than 2,600 yards.
Mattison has the experience of being in the NFL since 2019, but his production during the last few seasons of his career hasn't been anything close to impressive.
As a member of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, he only rushed for 420 yards and four touchdowns on 132 attempts. Mattison's 3.2 yards per rushing attempt ranked 46th out of the 46 running backs in the NFL who carried the ball 100 times or more last season.
Of course, his chance of remaining on Miami's final 53-man roster for the 2025 campaign will depend on how he performs during the team's OTA practices, mini-camp, training camp, and preseason games over the next few months.
It's still possible that Mattison will suit up for the Dolphins next season, but his path to accomplishing this certainly got a lot harder after this year's NFL Draft.
