During his tenure as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Kevin O'Connell has developed a reputation as someone who can typically get the most out of a quarterback on his roster.

Unfortunately, not every quarterback is able to take O'Connell's guidance and turn it into success out on the field.

Jaren Hall is someone who falls into this category, and after only a short time in the league, Minnesota's 2023 fifth-round draft pick announced his retirement from the NFL with a post on his personal Instagram account on Wednesday.

"There’s a lot I could say, but mostly I just feel grateful.

Sports have been woven into nearly every part of my life — they’ve challenged me, humbled me, shaped my faith, introduced me to lifelong friendships, and given me experiences I never could have imagined. From growing up in this community, to representing my hometown, to having the opportunity to play in the NFL, it has all been a blessing.

What I’ll carry most isn’t the milestones, but the people — teammates, coaches, family, and a community that supported me every step of the way.

My heart is full as I close this chapter and finish my football career. I’m thankful to everyone who’s been part of the journey.

The game has given me more than I could ever give back."

Hall certainly had some intrigue surrounding him when he first joined the Vikings after the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. At the very least, some thought he could develop into a solid backup for Minnesota.

However, that wasn't even something that was able to happen with Hall.

Due to multiple injuries in the Vikings' quarterback room in 2023, he actually got the opportunity to start two games for Minnesota in his rookie year. Unfortunately, neither of them went well.

In a Week 9 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, Hall made his first career start with the Vikings, but it only lasted 11 snaps after he suffered a concussion near the end of the first quarter.

Minnesota fans likely remember this game more for it being the one where Josh Dobbs was forced to play after getting traded to the Vikings just a few days earlier, and O'Connell basically did his best Ratatouille impression to help Dobbs and lead Minnesota to an improbable win.

Hall got another start for the Vikings during his rookie season when they went up against the Green Bay Packers in Week 17.

He was able to remain healthy for the entire time he was out on the field; however, O'Connell benched him following the first half after he turned the ball over twice, and Minnesota only managed to gain a total of 93 yards while he was under center.

That turned out to be Hall's final regular-season appearance with the Vikings.

Minnesota decided to quickly move on from the former BYU quarterback before the start of his second season with the team, as he wasn't among those selected to be on the Vikings' final 53-man roster for the 2024 campaign.

After getting waived by Minnesota, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks and spent the entire 2024 season on their practice squad.

Hall was let go by the Seahawks in April of 2025 and he was unable to land another NFL gig elsewhere after his time with Seattle.

Back in January, he did sign with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions, but less than a month later, he was already off the team.

Hall entered the NFL a bit on the older side since he's already 28-years-old right now, and continuing to pursue a football career at the pro level clearly just wasn't something he wanted to do anymore.
