The 2025 NFL season didn't end the way former Minnesota Vikings pass-catcher Adam Thielen likely hoped it would, but that doesn't take anything away from the amazing career he made for himself in the league.

Despite playing for the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers in his career, Thielen will always have a place in his heart for the Vikings. A Minnesota native who worked his way from an undrafted free agent to the Pro Bowl, his rise to fame is a great story of grit and determination.

After 12 seasons in the NFL, former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen announced his retirement.

On Wednesday, Adam Thielen took to Instagram to announce that he is retiring from football. The former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver thanked everyone for supporting him and his family on his football journey.

Thielen played 146 games for the Vikings, where he earned two Pro Bowl nods and was named All-Pro Second Team in 2017. He finishes fifth all-time in receiving yards (6,751), fourth in receptions (542), and third in receiving touchdowns (55) to cement his place in Minnesota history.

The Detroit Lakes native retires at the age of 35. Here is what he posted on Instagram:

"What a ride it has been! 13 years what a blessing! Have been blessed with so many great relationships and mentors over the years that I am forever grateful for! Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the years it has meant everything to my family and I! ❤️"

It wouldn't be shocking if the Minnesota Vikings had Thielen return to U.S. Bank Stadium in the future as part of their Legends program. His popularity with the team and fans makes him an ideal candidate to sound the Gjallarhorn or be inducted into the Ring of Honor.

It would have been nice if he could have earned a Super Bowl championship with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but their elimination from the playoffs by the Houston Texans on Monday night ended that dream for Thielen.

Thielen should be proud of his accomplishments in the NFL. Although there were times that Minnesota Vikings fans likely didn't like the way things went for the fan-favorite wide receiver, he will always be welcome as part of the purple and gold family.

Congratulations to Adam Thielen on a fantastic NFL career, and a huge thank you to him for all that he has done for the Vikings and their fans over the years.
