The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a season full of inconsistency at the quarterback position and a year marred by injuries. For 2026, the team is hoping to be able to stay healthier and be more reliable offensively.

A competition between 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy and former Arizona Cardinals passer Kyler Murray will determine the Vikings' starter. Hopefully, that battle will also bring out the best in both quarterbacks.

If Murray wins the competition, it will be interesting to see how he fares in Minnesota. Should fans expect the same type of play from the 28-year-old quarterback that he displayed during his time in Arizona, or will he thrive with his new purple and gold teammates?

Ryan Fitzpatrick is fascinated by the Minnesota Vikings signing quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason, but questions his long-term impact.

Recently, an NFL analyst and former quarterback shared his thoughts on the Minnesota Vikings signing Kyler Murray. Ryan Fitzpatrick seems very interested in the partnership, but also has some concerns.

"I'm actually fascinated by the Kyler Murray thing."

And what is it about the Vikings and Murray that interests Fitzpatrick?

"He gets to reinvent who he is when he goes to Minnesota. And I think going in there, having to establish himself as a leader — which is something that he struggled towards the tail end of his career in Arizona to do — and just for everything to be fresh. For him to attack the playbook, be able to take new coaching from a different coach in a different way. I'm really excited to see Kyler Murray in Minnesota."

Murray has an opportunity to thrive with the Vikings. With talent around him on the offense, this could be a great chance for him to showcase his talent and cash in on his one-year deal with Minnesota if he thrives.

At first, Fitzpatrick's words sounded completely complimentary, but there was also a sour part of his evaluation.

"I think his best year with Minnesota will be his first year. And if they keep him after that, then it's going to trail off. Because some of the issues that came up in Arizona are gonna be the same issues that are gonna follow him."

This is a warning not to go too crazy if Kyler Murray impresses the Vikings enough to get an extension and stay in Minnesota. A big contract with many years might sound great after what happened when the purple and gold didn't bring Sam Darnold back, but it might also be fool's gold this time.

There is no question that Murray is a talented quarterback, but can he become a leader and a consistent contributor for the long haul? Only time can answer that question. Perhaps Ryan Fitzpatrick will be proven right, or his concerns might be unfounded.
