The Indianapolis Colts are willing to allow quarterback Anthony Richardson to seek a trade, which should interest the Minnesota Vikings as well as other teams who might be interested in acquiring a passer this offseason.
His career hasn't gone as well as he would have hoped since he entered the NFL as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite that, he still has a lot of raw talent and ability that could be brought out in the right environment.
It would be tragic for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson to land in the NFC North if it isn't with the Minnesota Vikings.
NFL Spin Zone's Sayre Bedinger recently shared an article that looked at the best possible landing spot for Anthony Richardson if the Indianapolis Colts end up trading him, and it wasn't the Minnesota Vikings.
Injuries have kept Richardson from showcasing his full potential, much like what has happened with J.J. McCarthy in Minnesota. Without more reps and experience, it's difficult to know what these young quarterbacks are capable of achieving.
That said, it seems like Bedinger feels like Richardson would benefit from sitting behind another quarterback, which is something that the Green Bay Packers have found success doing in the past with their young quarterbacks.
The Packers are set to lose backup Malik Willis in free agency. Willis has earned another starting opportunity in this league and could be paid handsomely for those services this offseason if a bidding war erupts.
Willis's departure opens a spot for Richardson to fill that role and continue developing as he sits behind Jordan Love in Green Bay.
"Matt LaFleur helped get Willis's career back on track, and he put him in positions that amplified his skills as opposed to highlighting his weaknesses. It doesn't look like Richardson is going to be an overnight fix, but the opportunity to work with LaFleur right now feels like it would be maybe his clearest path to long-term success."
Matt LaFleur might be able to help turn Richardson's career around, but Kevin O'Connell might be able to do a similar thing with the Minnesota Vikings while giving the Colts' quarterback a more likely path to a potential starting role if McCarthy struggles in 2026.
It would be wild to see another young quarterback develop into a quality passer and thrive with the Green Bay Packers when the Minnesota Vikings have struggled for years to find a consistent passer who can keep the purple and gold competitive in an extremely challenging NFC North division.
