An uncontrollable amount of noise surrounded J.J. McCarthy in 2025 during his first season as the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings.
This year, McCarthy has already taken steps to literally block the noise so that he can focus on preparing for battles out on the practice field during the next few months with new Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray.
During an episode of the "Purple Daily" podcast on Tuesday, SKOR North's Phil Mackey and Declan Goff revealed that McCarthy has blocked both of them on the X social media platform.
"Declan and I have been blocked by a prominent current Vikings player. I don't know why. I don't think Declan knows why.
It's only on the one platform. So it's possible someone from this person's team has decided, 'Okay, we're just going to clean up some of the noise here so that our guy doesn't have to see things.' But J.J. McCarthy has blocked Declan and myself on [X.com].”
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy blocks SKOR North hosts on X
Both Mackey and Goff sounded pretty surprised that both of their profiles on X were blocked by the Minnesota quarterback.
They shared how the main SKOR North account on X has not been blocked by McCarthy, and even if it was, that would be a bit surprising since it features tons of clips of the two co-hosts supporting the young signal-caller.
"[Our McCarthy takes], most of which [have been] from Declan and myself by the way, even in the face of massive universal criticism, have been largely positive.
People [have clowned] us for not bailing early enough on J.J. McCarthy. I feel like we've been allies to the J.J. McCarthy movement, even as that group of people continues to dwindle.”
Since Mackey and Goff also revealed that neither of them has been blocked by McCarthy on Instagram, they shared that a different person managing the quarterback's account on X might be the person who blocked the two SKOR North co-hosts and not necessarily the quarterback himself.
That's possible, but it has seemed like, at least at times, that McCarthy has been the one doing the posting or the reposting on his X account for a while now. His account is full of lots of reactions to Vikings posts, hockey, and University of Michigan content.
At the same time, none of his posts are very elaborate, so they could have very easily been posted by someone else managing his account for him.
Did Mackey and Goff cross a line with McCarthy that they are unaware of, or were they the victims of a decision by a random social media intern thinking they were doing the right thing by preventing McCarthy from stumbling upon even a sliver of negativity about the quarterback?
