When in the public eye, being careful what you say and how you word things is important. This is a lesson that edge rusher Jonathan Greenard learned recently after being traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Being able to communicate effectively without saying something that can be interpreted in a way other than how it was intended is an important life skill that comes in handy even if you aren't a star NFL player or a former Vikings contributor.

However, people aren't perfect, and sometimes things come out wrong. When that happens, it is time to do some damage control and try to clear up any confusion about the statement's intent and purpose.

Former Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard wanted to clarify comments made about his previous teams' lack of "hardware."

It is painfully obvious to Minnesota Vikings fans that the team lacks "hardware" from a Super Bowl win. And even if a fan of the purple and gold may have forgotten about it, odds are that a Packers fan will appear out of nowhere to remind them.

That pain is a reason the comment from Jonathan Greenard about "hardware" in Minnesota cut deep for some fans. However, it appears as though it wasn't intended to be a jab at his former teams, and instead just a transition to his new team.

Here is what Greenard had to say about the miscommunication in a post on X:

"Read the question and get my full answer. Everybody that knows me knows I don’t do sneak dissing or talk down. Both parties got what they wanted. Let’s just go our separate ways. I wish my brothers over there nothing but the best. It’s always love"

The way the question was posed to Greenard in the interview, it would have been challenging to answer without mentioning his previous time with the Texans and Vikings. Even if he had won a ring with one of those franchises, he would likely still be hungry for another now that he's playing in Philadelphia.

Every player in the NFL should want to win a championship. That is the pinnacle of the sport and helps to cement a player's legacy in this league. It's a shame Jonathan Greenard couldn't get a ring with the Minnesota Vikings, but that doesn't mean that he can't get the job done with the Eagles...even if some purple and gold fans might not like that idea.
