Prior to his team facing the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell was the subject of arguably the dumbest NFL rumor of the entire 2024 season that "revealed" there are multiple teams around the league with interest in trading for him later this year.
O'Connell was asked about the foolish rumor on Monday, and he made it very clear that he's not looking to coach any other team in the NFL right now other than the Vikings.
"I'm not really interested in addressing the rumors or speculation. What I can tell you is I love this
team. I love everything about this organization and this is where I want to be. This is where I want to keep coaching and leading."
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has earned a big raise before the 2025 season
With Minnesota finishing the regular season with at least 13 wins for the second time in his three years with the team, O'Connell has easily earned himself a contract extension from the Vikings.
In the three years since he was hired in 2022, Minnesota has a combined 34-17 record in the regular season. The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens are the only teams in the NFL that have a better combined regular-season record since the start of the 2022 campaign than the Vikings.
What's been the most impressive part about Minnesota's success under O'Connell is the fact that they've been able to win with Kirk Cousins, Nick Mullens, Josh Dobbs, Jaren Hall, and Sam Darnold all starting at least once at quarterback for the team during his tenure.
He's still searching for his first playoff win as the Vikings head coach. But with Minnesota heading into the 2024 postseason with a 14-3 record, he's got a great opportunity to accomplish that feat in the very near future.
