The Minnesota Vikings made the tough decision to move on from quarterback Kirk Cousins following the 2023 NFL season. It didn't take long for the Atlanta Falcons to sign him to a four-year deal worth $180 million to be their passer.
Atlanta shocked fans and experts during the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick. That decision raised some questions about the Falcons' plans at quarterback.
When Kirk Cousins took the field for the Falcons, he didn't look like the guy the Vikings had behind center. He threw 16 interceptions to his 18 touchdowns in 14 games before getting benched for Penix.
Former Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins gets uncomfortably honest about future with Falcons
Reports have been swirling that the Falcons will attempt to move on from Cousins in favor of Penix for the 2025 season. This expensive move for Atlanta would raise questions about the 36-year-old quarterback's future.
Recently, Kirk Cousins appeared on Good Morning Football (GMFB) and discussed his future in the NFL with the hosts.

It doesn't sound like hanging up his cleats is likely this offseason if he does end up cut by the Falcons. He did go on to say that he needs to focus on his health if he wants to be an effective quarterback in the future.
" I'm no good to a team if I'm not feeling really good. That's really where my focus has been through January and February now that the season has wound down, really taking all the time I can to get my body feeling really good."Kirk Cousins via GMFB
Cousins has been fortunate to have a relatively healthy career in the NFL. An Achilles tendon tear in 2023 ended his season and required surgery. The veteran passer hasn't looked the same since that incident.
The good news for Kirk Cousins is that there are several teams that could be looking for a quarterback this offseason. More good news is that he will likely be in line for significant money from Atlanta because of the $100 million worth of guaranteed money in his contract.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for a veteran quarterback coming off a rough year. He may have been solid while in Washington and while playing for the Minnesota Vikings, but it seems like his time with the Falcons could be coming to an end soon.
