After J.J. McCarthy struggled in his first season as the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback, the team needs to look for another option this offseason. A name that is starting to feel like it could be the solution is Kyler Murray.

Murray, the former first overall pick by the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft, was recently released by Arizona and is now a free agent. According to Connor Hughes of SNY, there is "resounding belief" that Murray's first choice is Minnesota.

"Kyler Murray, the top option available with his impending release from the Cardinals, has been discussed at length. The resounding belief from multiple sources, though, is that he will sign with the Vikings."

Kyler Murray to the Vikings continues to gain steam

Essentially, if the Vikings are at all interested in Murray and are willing to give him a fair contract, he'll be on their roster in 2026. If that ended up happening, he'd take over as the starting quarterback while McCarthy would be demoted to backup. He'd have a chance to learn from Murray, who could actually be quite affordable for the Vikings to sign given the circumstances of his release.

It's not hard to see why Murray would be interested in joining Minnesota. After all, this is a team that has arguably the best wide receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson and would have an electric defense helping out on the other side of the ball.

While Murray didn't work out in Arizona, sometimes players simply need a fresh start and the Vikings could give him that fresh start. It'd be fascinating to see if Kevin O'Connell could work his magic with the former Heisman Trophy winner and how good this team could be with someone like Murray at the helm.

People keep saying the Vikings are a quarterback away from being truly dangerous and getting Murray could prove that theory. If he's interested in joining the Vikings and willing to sign an affordable deal, why not go for it? He's the best option available amongst the free agent and draft quarterbacks this offseason and would give the Vikings offense a boost, no doubt.
