After a very eventful 2026 offseason, training camp is finally here for the Minnesota Vikings. Before we know it, the Vikings will be kicking off the regular season inside U.S. Bank Stadium against the rival Green Bay Packers.
But before that happens, Minnesota has a few things to sort out during the next several weeks on the practice fields at the TCO Performance Center, especially when it comes to figuring out who is going to be the team's starting quarterback for the 2026 campaign.
In order to keep up with everything that will be happening during Vikings training camp during the next few weeks, make sure to bookmark this page and check back each day for the latest updates.

Top lessons learned at Minnesota Vikings training camp so far
- Thursday, August 13
Vikings starting right guard Will Fries returned to practice on Thursday after missing two sessions earlier this week with an undisclosed injury, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. That's good news for a Minnesota offensive line that is hoping to avoid anything that resembles what the position group dealt with in 2025 when it came to injuries.
- Wednesday, August 12
While many are focused on trying to figure out what's next for J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings' other 2024 first-round pick, Dallas Turner, has been impressive this summer and appears to be on track to prove that he's more than capable of replacing Jonathan Greenard in Minnesota's starting defense.
- Tuesday, August 11
Minnesota began its third week of training camp practice with an announcement that Kyler Murray has emerged as the winner of its quarterback battle between the former No. 1 overall draft pick and J.J. McCarthy. Now, the Vikings have a month to prepare for Murray's first regular-season start against the Green Bay Packers on September 13.
- Sunday, August 9
It was another rough night for the Vikings' offense, which means a good night for Brian Flores' defense. The first-team unit picked off Kyler Murray twice.
- Saturday, August 8
Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy are still searching for consistency in a clunky offense, while rookie defensive tackle Caleb Banks looks ready to make an immediate impact. Rookie running back Demond Claiborne continues to display big-play potential, showcasing blazing speed after the catch.
- Friday, August 7
J.J. McCarthy had arguably his best day of training camp on Friday, but most of his reps still came with the second-team offense. If he continues to string good days together moving forward, will Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell give McCarthy more opportunities with the first-team offense, or will Kyler Murray continue to get the majority of those reps as he has during the last several practices?
- Wednesday, August 5
If you haven't heard yet, rookie cornerback Charles Demmings has been one of the stars of Vikings training camp this summer. Demmings has broken up multiple passes, and he hasn't backed down from the challenge of covering Minnesota receivers like Justin Jefferson and Jauan Jennings.
The Vikings' corner depth heading into training camp was a notable question mark, but Demmings' performance so far should help eliminate some of the concerns people might have about that position group.
- Tuesday, August 4
A day after their first padded practice on Monday, the pads came back off on Tuesday, and the Vikings conducted a lighter practice while multiple top players got a rest day, including Justin Jefferson, Josh Metellus, Christian Darrisaw, and Andrew Van Ginkel.
- Monday, August 3
After a very underwhelming rookie season in 2025, Vikings wide receiver Tai Felton has made a ton of impressive plays during the team's training camp this summer, and it seems like he should be able to make a much larger impact on the field for Minnesota during his second year with the franchise.
- Saturday, August 1
Kevin O'Connell spoke to the media before practice and, as expected, said a lot about nothing regarding the QB competition.
On the role of the locker room, O'Connell said, "Ultimately, we want those guys to have conviction about their confidence in the player. Not just the guy, as we learned over a couple of years here, not just the guy named the starter, we need guys multiple guys ready to play at a level that can help us win games, regardless of circumstance.”
- Friday, July 31
Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson spoke to the media for the first time since training camp started and he shared how he hopes the competition brings the best out of both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, but he went out of his way to emphasize how he really hopes it benefits McCarthy.
Is Jefferson pulling for McCarthy to win the job, or is he just sharing some words of encouragement for a player who likely lost a significant amount of confidence last season?
- Thursday, July 30
Center could potentially develop into a significant problem for the Vikings this season. It's early in training camp, but there have already been multiple botched shotgun and under-center snaps by both Blake Brandel and Michael Jurgens in Minnesota's first two practices this summer.
- Wednesday, July 29
Believe it or not, the quarterback battle between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy was not decided during Minnesota's first training camp practice of the summer. In fact, Day 1 might have revealed that this quarterback competition could last a little longer than some have been anticipating.
Latest practice updates
Thursday, August 13
- Thursday's practice was a lighter one, according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad, as the Vikings clearly wanted to take things a little easier before their preseason opener on Saturday against the New York Giants inside MetLife Stadium.
- Zulgad added that Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson and starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw were both non-participants in Thursday's session, and that's likely an indication that both won't suit up against the Giants on Saturday.
Wednesday, August 12
- Minnesota starting right guard Will Fries sat out practice again on Wednesday, and in each one of his absences, second-year offensive lineman Joe Huber has been getting the right guard reps with the first-team offense, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
- Vikings running back Jordan Mason displayed the potential of the team's new rushing attack, as he turned one carry on Wednesday into a 50-yard touchdown, according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz.
Tuesday, August 11
- After being named Minnesota's QB1, Kyler Murray took all of the first-team reps in Tuesday's practice, and he was incredibly sharp, as he completed 15 of his 16 passes during the session (including 12-for-12 in 11-on-11 team drills), according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad.
- Vikings starting right guard Will Fries did not practice on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. No word yet on whether Fries' absence from practice was injury-related or not.
- Fourth-year safety Jay Ward returned to the field on Tuesday after missing multiple practices with a concussion, according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz.
- Ragatz also shared that Jamal Adams continues to get a lot of work at safety with the first-team defense, and Brian Flores has him lining up in multiple spots all over the field to take advantage of his versatility.
Sunday, August 9
- Charles Demmings had a sack, and the interior defensive line got to the quarterback on more than one occasion.
- Jamal Adams has been getting first-team reps with safeties since Friday.
- Demond Claiborne scored a red-zone touchdown.
Saturday, August 8
- Charles Demmings is making plays and continues to be a camp standout.
- After sitting out of practice for a couple of days nursing a sore thumb, Jordan Addison was back taking first-team reps, according to Bring Me the Sports' Will Ragatz.
Friday, August 7
- Jamal Adams stepped onto the field with a new jersey number on Friday, switching from No. 54 to No. 32, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Adams was working as a safety during the practice, and NFL rules don't allow defensive backs to wear a jersey number higher than 49, so that was the reason for the switch.
- Vikings kicker Will Reichard got a chance to attempt some actual field goals in front of fans for the first time this summer, and on Friday, he went 4-for-5 on his attempts, which were "all from fairly deep," according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz.
Wednesday, August 5
- Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison didn't practice on Wednesday due to a minor thumb injury that the team doesn't want to make worse. With Addison sidelined, second-year receiver Jeshaun Jones got some opportunities to line up with the first-team offense, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer.
- After a rest day on Tuesday, Minnesota left tackle Christian Darrisaw returned to the practice field on Wednesday and was a full participant, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Emily Leiker.
- Vikings first-round pick Caleb Banks seems to be adjusting well to the speed of the NFL, as the rookie defensive lineman has flashed multiple times in this year's training camp, including a rep on Thursday where he "zoomed past right guard Will Fries to blow up a run play," according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz.
- Speaking of Minnesota first-round picks, Dallas Turner is heading into a massive opportunity this season, and the team should be confident in his chances to succeed based on how he's performed in camp this summer, including on Thursday when he "wreaked havoc in the team period with a multitude of pressures," according to A to Z Sports' Tyler Forness.
Tuesday, August 4
- Vikings cornerback James Pierre, rookie defensive lineman Domonique Orange, and rookie running back Demond Claiborne were all participants in Tuesday's practice, according to Purple Insider's Matthew Coller. All three have missed at least one day of practice since training camp began last week.
- We've heard a bunch in the last few months about Claiborne's speed, but he's going to need to do more than just run fast if he wants to play any legit number of snaps for Minnesota this season. Dropping passes certainly won't help that happen, and that's exactly what he did during a red zone drill on Thursday, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Ben Goessling.
- Several top Minnesota players sat out Tuesday's session, according to multiple reports, which then opened up some opportunities for some of the younger players on the roster to get reps with the top offensive and defensive units.
- Two of those younger members of the Vikings roster who stood out on Thursday were rookie cornerback Charles Demmings and second-year tight end Gavin Bartholomew, according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz. Demmings made multiple pass breakups, and Bartholomew caught everything thrown his way, according to Ragatz.
- In addition, Demmings has looked fearless when facing any member of Minnesota's talented receiver room this summer, including Jauan Jennings, who apparently had a "sharp reaction" to the rookie corner's physicality on the final rep of practice, according to Goessling.
Monday, August 3
- Second-year Vikings receiver Tai Felton made an incredible one-handed catch in the back of the end zone on Monday, and Minnesota was kind enough to post the footage of the reception on their official X account.
- New Minnesota cornerback James Pierre returned to practice for the team on Monday after missing some time last week with an undisclosed injury, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
- It was only the first padded practice of the summer, but according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Emily Leiker, the Vikings' supposedly new-and-improved rushing attack "did not produce any wow moments" on Monday.
- Leiker also added that Minnesota rookie defensive lineman Domonique Orange was in street clothes on Monday and did not practice. No news yet on whether it's injury-related or not.
Saturday, August 1
- TCO Performance Center hosted 75+ Vikings legends and their families at practice, where Korey Stringer was honored on the 25th anniversary of his tragic passing.
- Rookie running back Demond Claiborne was not seen practicing today, and James Pierre was not in uniform.
Friday, July 31
- Minnesota's third full-team practice of training camp was forced to be held inside on Friday because of rain, and the Vikings decided to run things at a walkthrough pace. So, thanks to the slower pace, there wasn't much of anything to take away from what took place on Minnesota's practice field on Friday.
Thursday, July 30
- As mentioned above, there were multiple botched snaps by Minnesota's top two centers for the second practice in a row on Thursday. According to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz, the first fumbled snap came on an under-center play involving Kyler Murray and backup center Michael Jurgens, and the second was also on a Murray rep, but it looked more like a "poor shotgun snap" by Blake Brandel rather than a fumble by the quarterback.
- A day after exiting Wednesday's practice session with what some thought might've just been cramps, Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers did not practice on Thursday, but he did participate in warm-ups according to Purple Insider's Matthew Coller. It's unknown if it's injury-related or not, but Coller did speculate about whether Rodgers' lack of participation on Thursday could be contract-related since the corner's current deal expires in 2027.
- Coller also shared that rookie running back Demond Claiborne, whom Minnesota selected in the sixth round of this past April's NFL Draft, got some reps returning kickoffs on Thursday.
- Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw told reporters on Thursday, "I feel the best I've felt in two years." When asked if he thinks he'll be available to play every snap and every game this season, Darrisaw responded with "100 percent."
- Despite being a member of Minnesota's roster for less than a week, veteran linebacker/safety Jamal Adams got some reps with the first-team defense on Thursday, according to the Pioneer Press' Dane Mizutani, who called the defender's time on the field with the starters "not insignificant."

Wednesday, July 29
- Minnesota receiver Jordan Addison made the most of his opportunities on Wednesday, catching five of his seven targets from Kyler Murray, including a connection down the left sideline for almost 30 yards.
- Vikings rookie defensive lineman Caleb Banks has been fully cleared to practice, and he spent his first training camp session mixing it up with the second-team defense during 11-on-11 drills, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
- New Minnesota cornerback James Pierre snagged a "really, really terrific" interception off a Murray deep pass, according to Purple Insider's Matthew Coller, and rookie corner Charles Demmings got a few snaps with the first-team defense after Isaiah Rodgers exited early with what seemed to be cramping.
- Vikings safety Theo Jackson got some reps next to Josh Metellus with the first-team defense, but Jay Ward and rookie Jakobe Thomas were also rotated in, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer, as the second starting safety spot next to Metellus is an underrated position battle to keep an eye on this summer.
- Krammer also added that Blake Brandel's transition to becoming Minnesota's starting center is still a work in progress, as one of his shotgun snaps was off target to Murray in 11-on-11 drills, and Murray fumbled an under-center exchange with Brandel during warm-ups.
- Jordan Mason potentially had the most exciting play of the day, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Emily Leiker, as the Vikings running back "juked out" Metellus near the sideline after catching a pass, and then ran all the way to the end zone with the rest of the offense cheering behind him.
QB Battle (Concluded on August 11)
- Tuesday, August 11
The battle to be the Vikings' No. 1 quarterback for the 2026 season has concluded after just 10 practices, and the team will roll into Week 1 against the Packers with Kyler Murray as their starting signal-caller.
- Sunday, August 9
Adding to Kyler Murray's two interceptions were a few sacks, but he did use his legs more, according to practice notes from @vikingzfanpage on X. J.J. McCarthy had some misfires but also "some good moments early and late," according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis.
- Saturday, August 8
"Not a great day for either QB," Will Ragatz of Bring Me the Sports posted on X. Neither Kyler Murray nor J.J. McCarthy has logged consecutive days of strong performances. Murray tossed plenty of incompletions and fumbled during 11-on-11 drills. J.J. McCarthy forced a throw to Jordan Addison in double coverage in the end zone, according to @verysadvikings practice notes on X.
- Friday, August 7
J.J. McCarthy had "one of his better days of camp" on Friday, as he "threw three touchdowns in a four-play red zone sequence," according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Despite McCarthy's success, Kyler Murray is still getting the majority of the reps with the first-team offense. On Friday, Murray had 17 snaps with the first-team offense, while McCarthy only had 10, according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad.
After Friday's session, Murray has now had 37 more reps with the first-team offense than McCarthy since August 1.
- Wednesday, August 5
Based on the consensus of almost everyone who was in attendance for Wednesday's practice, J.J. McCarthy had a relatively good showing, but his performance just wasn't as good as Kyler Murray's.
Murray and McCarthy had an almost identical snap count, according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad, but the details of those snaps are what revealed the most, as 24 of Murray's 31 snaps on Wednesday were spent working with the first-team offense, and only 13 of McCarthy's 32 snaps had him lining up with the first-team offense.
Some might say this is Minnesota just giving Murray more time with the first-team so he can get a better grasp of the offense that he's still learning how to operate.
Perhaps, but Murray has had a total of 30 more snaps with the first-team offense than McCarthy since August 1, according to Zulgad, and that gap between the two seems like it's only going to grow larger during the next few practices.
- Tuesday, August 4
Tuesday's practice session was a lighter one for the Vikings, and this was especially clear with the amount of work the quarterbacks did, as Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy both only attempted eight passes apiece, according to Purple Insider's Matthew Coller.
Coller added that there was "nothing horrific" for Murray or McCarthy during team drills on Tuesday, while ESPN's Kevin Seifert did share on his X account that McCarthy had three straight overthrows against no defense in a red zone drill.
Murray's lead in reps with the first-team offense has continued to grow, as he's had a total of 39 reps with the starting offense since Saturday's practice, while McCarthy has only had 20 reps with the first-team offense during that same time period, according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad.
- Monday, August 3
In their first practice with pads on this summer, neither Kyler Murray nor J.J. McCarthy really did much to separate from the other.
McCarthy got the first reps in 11-on-11 drills according to Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz, and the quarterback made a couple of impressive throws to Justin Jefferson and rookie receiver Michael Briscoe.
Ragatz added that the third-year signal-caller also performed well during Minnesota's 7-on-7 team drills, but he then unfortunately fell apart in the situational drill at the end of practice when he threw a pick to Vikings corner Byron Murphy, almost tossed another to cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, and had another pass broken up by linebacker Blake Cashman.
As for Murray, he had a similar day to McCarthy, making some great throws in the 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 portions of practice, according to Ragatz.
But the situational drill is where the veteran quarterback struggled too, as he went 0-for-2 in his two snaps with the second-team offense near the end zone, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Unofficially, Murray and McCarthy had the same exact number of snaps on the field on Monday, with both getting 20 total, according to SKOR North's Judd Zulgad.
- Saturday, August 1
ESPN's Kevin Seifert called Saturday's practice the best outing from Kyler Murray so far, describing him as "accurate, decisive." He completed 14 of 17 passes while working primarily with the first-team offense.
J.J. McCarthy, who worked with both teams in the second half of the first-team period, struggled, taking a sack and throwing an interception. Tyler Forness of A to Z Sports wrote that McCarthy "looked comfortable in the pocket, but the accuracy wasn't there." He finished 8 of 16 with a pick.
- Friday, July 31
Rain forced the Vikings to hold practice inside on Friday, and because of that, the session was reportedly run "close to a walkthrough pace," according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Despite the slower pace, Seifert did share that for the first time since Minnesota had its first full-team practice on Wednesday, McCarthy got more snaps (32) in 11-on-11 team drills than Kyler Murray (26) on Friday.
Context seems necessary here since the practice was essentially a walkthrough and some of each quarterback's snaps came against the scout team. Still, it will be interesting to see if McCarthy is given more snaps than Murray again when the Vikings practice in front of fans for the first time on Saturday.
- Thursday, July 30
After Murray got a chance to work with the first-team offense in team drills first on Wednesday, McCarthy got the first shot with the first-team offense during 11-on-11 drills on Thursday, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Emily Leiker.
Despite McCarthy getting the opening first-team reps, he ended up reportedly spending more of his time in practice working with the second-team offense, while Murray got a "hefty amount of snaps with the starters," according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis.
It's still early, but following the first two practices of camp, Bring Me The Sports' Will Ragatz has noticed that most of McCarthy's throws have been the short and easy ones underneath, while Murray has made more attempts to push the ball downfield with his attempts.
In terms of an official pass count, Murray went 9-for-15 (60 percent) on Thursday, and McCarthy went 9-for-12 (75 percent) on his throws, according to Purple Insider's Matthew Coller.
Overall, in the two practices combined, Murray has completed 19 of his 32 throws (59 percent), and McCarthy has gone 21-for-27 (78 percent) with his pass attempts out on the field, according to the data compiled by Coller.
- Wednesday, July 29
Murray got the first shot at running the first-team offense, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert, but he added that the reps were still split pretty evenly between the two signal-callers, with Murray getting 16 total snaps and McCarthy getting 12.
Purple Insider's Matthew Coller actually tracked each passer's attempts on Wednesday, and according to what he witnessed, McCarthy went 12-for-15 (80 percent), while Murray went 10-for-17 (59 percent), with the added context that two of his attempts were dropped by a Vikings pass-catcher.
Injury updates
Jakobe Thomas - S (Undisclosed)
- Wednesday, August 12
Jakobe Thomas continued to only take part in individual drills on Wednesday and not any of Minnesota's team drills, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
- Tuesday, August 11
Vikings rookie safety Jakobe Thomas has not taken part in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 team drills for multiple practices, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune's Emily Leiker. It's unknown if Thomas's absence from team drills is due to an injury or not.
