The Minnesota Vikings are the NFL's last remaining undefeated team at 6-0. But very few are taking them seriously as a legitimate contender.
Concerns about the offense's functionality are holding people back from going all in. Some are even questioning when someone will figure out Brian Flores' defense to gain the upper hand. Others point to a tougher upcoming schedule, predicting the bubble will burst sooner rather than later.
But amid all the stats, the projections, and the skepticism, everyone seems to have forgotten what the main point of all this actually is.
Winning.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Minnesota Vikings are finding different ways to win, and that matters
It doesn't matter if you win 39-22, 9-3, or 15-10. They all count the same.
And the team that wins the most games during the campaign, including the playoffs, hoists the Vince Lombardi Trophy at season's end.
Would the Vikings like to win more convincingly and with more flair? No doubt, especially for an offensive-minded head coach such as Kevin O'Connell.
But getting the job done is all that matters.
The Vikings have already proven they can win ugly. They have already proven they can grind it out and do just enough to emerge victorious.
That might be getting overlooked right now, but it matters. Especially when the playoffs roll around.
Bigger challenges are coming for Minnesota. Their schedule is about to get a lot tougher, but they are brimming with confidence. It would be deeply disappointing if the offense didn't show some growth over the second half of 2026, but their defense is elite and has been for a long time under Flores' exceptional guidance.
Vikings are still winning while waiting for everything to click
And as the old saying goes, defense wins championships.
They still have a long way to go. Doubters need to be silenced, but the Vikings being undefeated without playing well in all three phases at the same time makes this start so exciting.
Minnesota is a dangerous team now.
When everything clicks, the sky's the limit.
Things can fall flat. It wouldn't be the first time Minnesota has stumbled down the stretch after looking promising early in the season. But with Flores' defense running riot, they've got a fighting chance.
And considering the projections around the Vikings before competitive action began, they are already greatly exceeding expectations.
Staying healthy is crucial, of course. A move or two before the trade deadline could also help Minnesota get over the hump. They have certainly laid the table for that, but there is also quiet confidence in the building that what they have is enough.
So far, it's hard to argue.
Winning masks all problems. O'Connell knows it, and he knows the critics will be gunning for his squad once a loss or two arrives.
Everyone will label them as a fraud, a pretender to the throne, and everything in between. They are not the trendy team, even within their division. But if they can keep winning and keep flying under the radar, that will be the perfect scenario.
Based on their fighting qualities and their ability to come through when it counts through the opening six games, write Minnesota off at your peril.
