In a bit of a surprise, mainly due to the timing of the decision, the Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that the team has waived linebacker Brian Asamoah II.
With Asamoah's departure, running back Ty Chandler and wide receiver Jalen Nailor are now the only two members of the Vikings' 2022 draft class that are left on the team's current roster.
Asamoah was in the middle of the final year of his rookie contract with Minnesota, but now, he'll likely have to find a new home if he wants to play during the 2025 season.
Minnesota Vikings waive LB Brian Asamoah II and make two other roster moves
Moving on from the fourth-year linebacker wasn't the only thing the Vikings did on Tuesday, as they also waived undrafted rookie center Zeke Correll with an injury designation and placed veteran wide receiver Rondale Moore on the team's Injured Reserve list.
Correll suffered a fractured ankle in Minnesota's preseason win over the Houston Texans this past Saturday, and Moore went down with a knee injury in the first half of the matchup.
It's extra heartbreaking for Moore since he just missed the entire 2024 campaign with a serious knee injury, and now, he'll be out of action for a second-straight season because of another knee injury. He's still only 25-years-old, but one has to wonder if these back-to-back serious knee injuries will result in the veteran receiver calling it a career sooner rather than later.
As for Asamoah, he was never able to live up to the expectations that came with being Minnesota's third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He showed some flashes as a rookie, but the majority of his tenure with the Vikings was spent on special teams.
Will Chandler or Nailor also part with Minnesota before the start of the regular season, or will Asamoah end up being the only member of the team's 2022 draft class to move on this year?
