Despite their 5-0 start to the 2024 season, the Minnesota Vikings still have plenty of doubters, especially when it comes to those who spend their time covering and rooting for the Detroit Lions.
When the Vikings return from their bye in Week 7, they'll have the pleasure of hosting the 3-1 Lions inside U.S. Bank Stadium. Recently, Woodward Sports's Neal Ruhl shared quite the bold claim about Minnesota and its big matchup against Detroit later this month.
"In 13 days, the Lions will be in first place in the NFC North. They will be. And everyone will say, 'Oh, I knew the Vikings were no threat, and stuff like that.'
I like how it's going down, because if you think that this is what are, let me let you in on a little secret about how the NFL works everybody, when you suck and you don't make the playoffs, this is what the scheduling is designed to do everybody.
...The fact of the matter remains. The Minnesota Vikings are not a threat to the Lions. When you're a crappy team, and you get an easy schedule, that's the way this works. It's designed for this everyone."
Minnesota Vikings apparently aren't a threat to the Detroit Lions this season
Ruhl declaring that the Lions essentially shouldn't worry about the Vikings this year because he believes Minnesota has played "an easy schedule" is pretty hilarious since he couldn't be more wrong.
According to the latest ESPN Football Power Index, the Vikings have had the sixth-toughest schedule in the NFL so far this season. But the mighty Lions have probably played a tougher set of opponents than Minnesota this year, right?
Nope, not quite. Heading into Week 6, Detroit has actually had the 17th-toughest schedule in the league, according to ESPN's Football Power Index.
Ruhl can say whatever he wants about the Vikings and how he doesn't believe in their success this season. He has every right to do so.
But if he's going to base his entire reasoning on Minnesota having an "easy schedule," then he should probably do a little more research before saying something that is completely incorrect.
