The 2026 NFL season continues to inch closer to kickoff, and teams like the Minnesota Vikings are working hard to assemble the best possible roster to compete for a playoff spot and a possible Super Bowl appearance.

For the Vikings, the talent seems to have been acquired, but there is still time to make one or two adjustments to the roster. That means the purple and gold could still sign a player or trade for the rights of a talented contributor.

As the season gets nearer, the pool of talent dries up. However, there are typically skilled players who slip through the cracks and become available very late into the preseason and sometimes even into the regular season.

It seems highly unlikely that the Minnesota Vikings will acquire Pro Bowl edge rusher Joey Bosa before the start of the 2026 NFL season.

One hot name that has swirled around in rumors is Joey Bosa. The 30-year-old edge rusher is currently a free agent, and there are quite a few Minnesota Vikings fans who like the idea of bringing the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the NFC North.

At a time when most free agents would be panicking and hounding their agents to get them offers and workouts, it is being reported that Bosa doesn't have football on his mind at all. That means joining the Vikings might be a pipe dream.

NFL insider Adam Schefter likely broke a lot of fans' hearts during a recent podcast. During the podcast, he had this to say about Bosa's NFL future:

"It is more likely than not that Joey Bosa has played his last NFL down. Now again, could a situation like the 49ers come along that entices him enough to come out and play again? Yeah. Absolutely. We saw it happen last year with Phillip Rivers. So you never know when a player is fully done and when he's not done."

When talking about situations that might entice Joey Bosa to return to the football field, it is unlikely that the Vikings would be on that list. Playing for Brian Flores might be great for him, but there would be something special if he could join his brother Nick in San Francisco

Minnesota Vikings fans who are still holding out hope that Joey Bosa will sign with the Minnesota Vikings soon might be setting themselves up for serious disappointment. But there is always that slim chance that something magical will happen and he will find his way to the purple and gold.
