Biggest Minnesota Vikings Storylines heading into Week 2
Who will start at QB for the Vikings?
Last week was all about the regular-season debut of Kyler Murray as the Vikings' starting quarterback. Well, that didn't last very long, as Murray was forced to exit the game due to a concussion before the first quarter even came to a close.
Carson Wentz did a great job after having to enter the contest in place of Murray last week, and most are assuming he will get the start against the Bears on Sunday so that Murray can get enough time to properly recover from his concussion.
If Murray is unable to play in Chicago, that also means that J.J. McCarthy will likely be Minnesota's No. 2 quarterback for Week 2 and be one snap away from throwing his first pass of the season for the Vikings.
How will Dallas Turner follow up Week 1?
In his debut as a full-time starting edge rusher for Minnesota last week, Dallas Turner certainly did not disappoint. Turner made life miserable all game long for the Packers' offensive line, and he ended the matchup with a total of nine pressures and one sack.
For Week 2, Minnesota's 23-year-old pass rusher gets to go against a Bears offense that allowed 15 pressures last Sunday to the Panthers.
Turner looked unstoppable last week, and he has a very good chance to have a similar performance in Chicago on Sunday.
Can Minnesota's defense slow down the Bears' offense?
In Carolina last week, the Bears' offense came out firing and put up a whopping 59 points on the scoreboard. Is that something we should all expect from Chicago every week this season, or did everything just go very, very right for them against the Panthers?
In 2025, the Vikings' defense held their own in their two games against the Bears and head coach Ben Johnson, as they only allowed an average of 21.5 points per matchup.
Will Chicago's final point total on Sunday be close to that average, or will Minnesota's defense get to experience something closer to what Carolina went through last week?
Will Kevin O'Connell stick with the run?
One way to prevent the Bears from putting up 59 points again on Sunday is to keep them off the field by controlling the clock with an efficient rushing attack, and for what feels like the first time in the Kevin O'Connell era, the Vikings might actually be committed to doing just that.
After a bunch of talk during the offseason about how Minnesota revamped their rushing attack to make it more efficient and a more important part of the team's offense, the Vikings stuck to their word in Week 1 by running the ball 34 times against the Packers.
Those 34 carries last Sunday are now tied for the most rushing attempts in a matchup that took place during Minnesota's first eight games of the season in the O'Connell era (since 2022).
Now, the Vikings get to take on a Chicago defense that just allowed the Panthers to average 5.7 yards per carry on the ground. That seems like a perfect reason for Minnesota to stick to running the ball as they did in Week 1.
