The second day of the 2026 NFL Draft was a good time for Minnesota Vikings fans. The team held three picks in the third round and four total selections on Friday, and the team continued adding young talent throughout.
So far, the purple and gold took a defensive tackle in the first round, a linebacker in the second round, and another defensive lineman in the third round with their first pick. Now, the purple and gold had an opportunity to bring another high-potential prospect to the team.
Minnesota fans got treated to a lot of excitement during Friday's draft, and one of the most interesting came when the franchise was on the clock with the pick at No. 97 overall, with needs still pressing.
Minnesota Vikings select Caleb Tiernan and Jakobe Thomas with final Day 2 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft
If fans scour social media for people talking about Minnesota and their picks during the 2026 NFL Draft, they are likely to find a lot of people confused or upset about the picks leading up to this point.
The Vikings' final two selections on Friday were interesting and should keep fans of the team talking heading into offseason activities, especially those hoping to hear the name of an offensive skill-player be announced during the first two days of the draft.
With pick No. 97, the Vikings took Caleb Tiernan. Tiernan is a massive offensive lineman at 6-foot-7, weighing 320 pounds. The former Northwestern blocker is position versatile and could be a swing tackle/guard hybrid in the NFL.
And with pick No. 98, Minnesota selected Jakobe Thomas. Finally selecting a defensive back, the team lands a 6-foot-1, 211-pound safety from Miami who is known for being physical and can play down in the box when needed.
The focus on defense continues to be a trend for the purple and gold. So far, the offense hasn't received much love from the interim general manager during the 2026 NFL Draft, but there is still a lot of draft yet to go.
That concluded the picks that the Vikings held for Friday. Rounds 4-7 will be on Saturday, and the purple and gold will fill out their picks to bring as much talent as possible into training camp to compete for spots on the 53-man roster and practice squad.
