The Minnesota Vikings are working hard to prepare for the upcoming 2025 NFL season and looking ahead to the future of the franchise. With training camp going on now, it's important to get the players and coaches on the same page.
For safety Josh Metellus, that means making sure he is in a purple and gold uniform for many seasons to come while he continues to be the most versatile player on Minnesota's defensive unit under coordinator Brian Flores.
Metellus was entering his final season under contract with the team, but general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made sure that it wouldn't be his last season playing under Coach of the Year Kevin O'Connell.
The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a three-year extension with safety Josh Metellus
Tom Pelissero announced on X that the Minnesota Vikings and Josh Metellus have agreed to a three-year extension. This should put an end to any questions about his status for this year and the next few seasons.

Josh Metellus was serious about wanting an extension to stay in Minnesota. The two sides had been negotiating a deal to keep him with the Vikings for a while, and should be able to get him more involved in training camp moving forward.
Metellus may be a safety to give him a positional designation, but the five-foot-eleven, 207-pound defender plays all over the field holding down multiple spots and creating a major problem for opposing offenses.
Adam Schefter recently shared the details of the extension on X, and Metellus got a healthy deal to remain with the Vikings.

If people aren't familiar with what Metellus means to the Vikings' defense, they might think the purple and gold paid too much on this extension. However, locking down a key piece of the defense was going to mean that the team would have to open their wallets if they wanted to keep him around.
Three years for $36 million with $25 million guaranteed shows Metellus how much the team values his contributions. His previous contract saw him make $8 million over two years, meaning the safety got a significant raise in this extension.
Coach O'Connell expressed his pleasure with the extension while meeting with the press, according to Lindsey Young on X, mentioning that he was happy to see him and his family get taken care of while keeping him in a purple and gold jersey.
“Absolutely thrilled for Josh, his family and for Vikings fans to see him … for years to come.”
