One of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL Draft for the Minnesota Vikings is that the team opted not to use one of their five selections on a defensive back. While they addressed other needs, that still remains one of the biggest questions on the roster.
It's not that the Vikings don't have talent in the secondary. Safeties like Harrison Smith and Josh Metellus have proven themselves, and cornerbacks Byron Murphy Jr., Mekhi Blackmon, Isaiah Rodgers, and Jeff Okudah offer enough talent not to be too concerned. However, there is room for improvement.
That is why it's not surprising that many experts and analysts don't think adding talent to its defensive backs unit. In fact, fans could soon get excited about another big trade or signing ahead of the team's training camp.
Minnesota Vikings suggested to trade for Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey
Zone Coverage's Chris Schad recently published a piece discussing what the Minnesota Vikings could do to put the finishing touches on acquiring the talent needed to be prepared for the 2025 NFL season.
In the piece, Schad suggests that the Vikings should be interested in attempting to trade for Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey is a nine-year NFL veteran who made the Pro Bowl seven times and was All-Pro First Team three times.
With 24 interceptions and 534 combined tackles in his 135 games, the 134-game starter offers significant value to any team he joins. In fact, he might be an asset that helps Brian Flores' defensive unit in Minnesota take their game to the next level.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound defender is on the trade block as he and the Dolphins agreed to allow a trade to be sought. It was a minor surprise that he was not dealt during the 2025 NFL Draft, but now that puts even more focus on his situation in Miami.
For the Vikings, diligence must be done. Inquiring about what it would cost to acquire the star defensive back seems like a smart move to evaluate if the two teams are anywhere close on what fair compensation would be.
Minnesota won't be the only team that should be interested in trading for Ramsey. Multiple teams are expected to inquire about the dynamic defender's services for 2025 and beyond. And even if it might be a long shot, the purple and gold need to see what it would take to get him from Miami.
