Following Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Minnesota Vikings are now 2-2 this season in games with Carson Wentz as the team's starting quarterback.
After signing right before the start of the 2025 season, Wentz has done the best he can while filling in for an injured J.J. McCarthy during the last few weeks. But it appears that the Vikings are getting closer to inserting McCarthy back into the starting lineup.
During his post-game presser on Sunday, Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell shared what the team's plan is for the quarterback position heading into their next game, which is in four days against the Los Angeles Chargers.
"First and foremost, [Wentz] competed and gotta see how he comes out, health-wise. [He] took some [shots]. He had to use his legs there a couple times on the last drive. We'll see how he turns over, and I know Max [Brosmer] was ready to go today, and J.J. was the emergency three.
But J.J. was able to get some work last week. We'll see how he feels as well, and on a short week, we're gonna put together the best plan we can, and that also includes the players available to us."
Minnesota Vikings not ruling out a QB change after Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles
Well, O'Connell had a chance to just say that the plan for Week 8 against the Chargers is to still start Wentz, but that's not the path he chose to take.
Instead, the Vikings' head coach didn't rule out the possibility of a different quarterback starting under center for the team when they return to the field for their next game in a few days.
O'Connell did mention that rookie Max Brosmer was ready to play on Sunday if needed, but one would imagine that he would remain the No. 2 signal-caller behind McCarthy or revert back to the emergency No. 3 quarterback if Wentz doesn't start on Thursday.
Given how many hits Wentz took on Sunday against the Eagles, Minnesota might also not have a choice but to start McCarthy or Brosmer in Week 8.
More will be known as early as Monday, and even though it was already a topic that every Vikings fan was paying attention to, the team's quarterback situation will, once again, be the primary focus of the fan base heading into Thursday's contest in Los Angeles.
