Less than three years after he helped lead the New York Giants to an upset win over the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022 playoffs, Brian Daboll is now without a job.

On Monday, the Giants fired Daboll as their head coach midway through his fourth season with the franchise. New York fell to 2-8 this year after suffering a four-point loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, which was also the team's fifth loss in their last six games.

Despite the Giants' overall team success not being high enough during his tenure, Daboll still has plenty of traits that can be utilized as an offensive assistant coach elsewhere in the NFL, and the Vikings should be one of the teams interested in potentially adding him to their staff.

Minnesota Vikings should consider hiring Brian Daboll to help develop J.J. McCarthy

With Daboll leading the way, New York's Jaxon Dart has easily been the best rookie quarterback in the league this season. Through Sunday's game, Dart has completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions, in addition to rushing for 317 yards and another seven scores.

Before getting hired by the Giants, Daboll also played a pivotal role in the development of the reigning NFL MVP, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Daboll was Buffalo's offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, and with his help, Allen was able to go from an extremely raw signal-caller to one of the best quarterbacks in the entire league.

With Allen under center and Daboll calling the plays for the offense, the Bills ranked third in the NFL in points scored per offensive drive in 2020 and fourth in the category in 2021. His success with Buffalo's top quarterback and that offense was a big reason why he got the job with New York in 2022.

Currently, Minnesota has its own young passer that they're attempting to develop in J.J. McCarthy. It's a very small sample size (only four career starts so far), but McCarthy has struggled in his first few games with the Vikings, and the play-calling by Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell hasn't done him any favors.

With the struggles of their young quarterback this season, some have brought up the idea of O'Connell giving up play-calling and focusing more on his job as the head coach for the entire Vikings locker room.

Minnesota hiring someone like Daboll to not only come in and help with the development of McCarthy, but also call plays should be something that the team seriously considers.

O'Connell has proven in his coaching career that he can get the most out of veteran quarterbacks in his offense, but he hasn't had anywhere close to the same success whenever he's worked with first or second-year signal-callers.

Daboll actually has had success when it has come to developing quarterbacks from the ground up, and while O'Connell might be reluctant to give up his play-calling duties to someone else, he could potentially extend his tenure with the Vikings even longer by letting someone like the former New York head coach run his offense.
