It is not every day that an undrafted free agent out of the University of Minnesota signs a deal to stay with his hometown Minnesota Vikings, but that was the case with Max Brosmer. Brosmer is vying for a roster spot as the backup to quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy actually played for a rival of Brosmer's when Brosmer was at the University of Minnesota, in the Michigan Wolverines. Brosmer and McCarthy never actually played against each other as McCarthy was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but it would have been cool to see them go against one another.

McCarthy and Brosmer are both putting in work as Vikings training camp continues before the preseason gets underway soon. With the preseason approaching, they have to give it all they've got, and McCarthy recently shared how he is noticing that about Brosmer.

"Max is the man. Super detail-oriented. Works his butt off. I can't say enough good things about that guy. An awesome human being, and he can sing pretty well, too. He's got a song out there. 'Old Jack Daniels'. Check it out."

Max Brosmer has tough competition to beat if he wants to win a Minnesota Vikings roster spot behind J.J. McCarthy

Every year in training camp, no matter what team you play for or what position you play, there is going to be competition, and you are going to have to earn it. It's that way for Brosmer as he has to compete against Brett Rypien and Sam Howell.

Howell and Rypien both have NFL experience starting for teams like the Denver Broncos and the Washington Commanders, among other teams. So Brosmer is really going to have to keep up the mojo, stay focused, and keep slinging the ball and impressing the coaching staff.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is known as the "quarterback whisperer", as he has a track record of really helping quarterbacks mold into good players. So if Brosmer wins a 2025 roster spot, watch for O'Connell to really help him with his development into a well-rounded player.
