Jordan Addison trade rumors take a hit after NFL insider comments

Since returning from a three-game suspension to start the season, and needing zero ramp-up in his first game back, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has topped 100 yards twice, with the game-winning touchdown in the other contest.

In Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, as some were expecting, Addison had nine catches for 128 yards. If Carson Wentz had made a better throw on a particular play, he would have had more yards and probably a touchdown.

Addison is averaging the most yards per route run in the league through Week 7, and only Puka Nacua and Ja'Marr Chase are averaging more receiving yards per game.

Leaving aside the off-the-field concerns he has had, and being suspended for the first quarter of the game in London against the Cleveland Browns, he is making his case for a nice second contract.

The question is if the Vikings will give him that kind of contract, which will likely be in the $30 million per year range. The sentiment on that varies and tends to sit on both ends of the spectrum, depending on the day or the week.

NFL insider puts speculation about Jordan Addison's future with Minnesota Vikings to bed

With the November 4th trade deadline on the horizon, speculation is everywhere. Before the bulk of Week 7's action, Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer recently appeared on NBC Sports Boston and named a couple of potential wide receiver trade targets for the New England Patriots.

"You can bring in a guy who is going to help you now and also be a building block going forward. Who could that be? Maybe Chris Olave in New Orleans. Maybe Jordan Addison in Minnesota.

Guys that are nearing the end of their rookie deals, where maybe their teams like the player but don't plan on signing them long term."

Breer was merely offering the type of wide receiver the Patriots could pursue on the trade market. He did not firmly report anything. But, as expected, he triggered at least one Vikings fan on X by mentioning Addison, and he had to clarify what he actually said.

The Vikings will surely pick up Addison's fifth-year option for 2027 by next May. But until they sign him to a contract extension beyond that, trade speculation will be convenient for those who want to entertain it.

There have been no signs that Addison is on the trade block or that he's not part of the long-term plan in Minnesota. Breer further confirmed those things, perhaps rooted in information he has gathered regarding teams that have called and been rebutted.
