Before Aaron Rodgers eventually signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year, the 2025 offseason was filled with tons of rumors about the Minnesota Vikings potentially signing the veteran quarterback.
That, of course, didn't end up happening (thankfully), and during a recent episode of the "NFL Spotlight w/ Ari Meirov" podcast, Vikings safety Josh Metellus got honest about his current team saying "no thanks" to Rodgers this offseason.
"I'm so happy we didn't bring him on the team because I want to be able to pick him off before he retires because I need to get him back [for throwing touchdowns on me].
I can't go out letting my favorite player of all-time growing up do me like that. I gotta get him back. I gotta get him back. I'm so happy we didn't bring him [in]. I'm so happy."
Minnesota Vikings safety Josh Metellus will get his chance to pick off Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers in 2025
Metellus made it clear in his comments that Rodgers was actually his favorite quarterback to watch when he was growing up, but that respect is what will make it even sweeter if the Minnesota safety is able to turn one of the All-Pro signal-caller's passes into an interception during the upcoming season.
Barring injury, Metellus will get his chance to pick off one of Rodgers' throws when the Vikings and Steelers travel across the Atlantic in Week 4 to face each other in Dublin, Ireland.
This will actually be the second year that Minnesota will face a team with Rodgers as its starting quarterback on international soil.
Last season, the Vikings handed the veteran quarterback and the New York Jets a loss in a Week 5 showdown that took place in London, England. Rodgers threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns in the matchup, but he also tossed a trio of interceptions to Minnesota.
In the 2025 contest against Pittsburgh, the Vikings will attempt to make him throw even more interceptions, and if he does, Metellus is hoping that one of those errant passes ends up landing in his hands.
