There may not be a single player on the Minnesota Vikings this season who has more pressure on him in 2026 than quarterback Kyler Murray.
The Arizona Cardinals are paying Murray not to play for them in 2026, and he has a stiff quarterback battle coming in training camp against J.J. McCarthy. In a recent article, The Athletic asked their beat reporters who had the most on the line for the 2026 season, with Vikings reporter Alec Lewis naming Murray for Minnesota.
"Every season presents opportunities for certain players to rewrite the narrative around their careers. This fall, Murray is one of those players.
That’s why he signed with the Vikings, and partly why the Vikings signed him. They believe the fit will be mutually beneficial.

Murray's career can be best categorized as "mixed," with everything he has had to deal with during his Cardinals years. At the beginning, it was all working out well for him: he was a Pro Bowler, taking Arizona to the playoffs, and having a solid roster around him.
Over the last three years, all of that changed for him. Durability became a big problem, as he missed 21 games between 2023 and 2025.
The good news is that he is 100 percent healthy and has looked good so far. Murray is the favorite to win the starting quarterback job over McCarthy entering training camp, but that doesn't mean there's no pressure on him.
Once again, Murray has to prove himself to be worthy of the job and could be playing for a starting spot after the 2026 season. Whether that is with the Vikings or another team is a big question that won't be answered until the season begins.
Murray has all the mechanics to be a great quarterback in the NFL, from his athleticism to his arm strength. He just needs the right pieces around him. Thankfully for him, with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, the Vikings have all the right tools for Murray to prolong his NFL career, but he needs to get it done in 2026.
