As they typically do each week, the Minnesota Vikings made some minor roster moves on Wednesday that likely went unnoticed by a good portion of the fanbase.

Veteran running back DeeJay Dallas was signed to the Vikings' active roster on Wednesday, and the team also signed rookie offensive lineman Corey Robinson II to their practice squad.

This is the second time this season that Minnesota has officially added Dallas to the team's active roster, with the first instance coming back in September after the Vikings had to place Jordan Mason on injured reserve.

On the surface, it might seem like a move that doesn't mean too much. Minnesota probably just wanted to beef up its running back depth midway through the regular season, right?

Why the Vikings' signing of DeeJay Dallas could mean a whole lot more

Well, with the signing of Dallas on Wednesday, the Vikings now have four running backs on the team's active roster. Dallas, Mason, Aaron Jones, and rookie Demond Claiborne are all part of Minnesota's current offensive backfield.

For the majority of the 2026 season, the Vikings have only had three running backs on their active roster. So, why do they have four now?

Is Jones or Mason hurt and more on that will be revealed when Minnesota's first injury report for Week 9 is released on Thursday?

Or are the Vikings making sure they have at least two running backs with experience in Kevin O'Connell's offense on the team's active roster if Minnesota ends up working out a deal for another running back before next week's trade deadline?

If the Vikings make a trade for someone like Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts or Breece Hall of the New York Jets, it would be beneficial for Minnesota to have multiple running backs who can help the new addition adjust to the team's offense as quickly as possible.

Then again, this signing on Wednesday could just be the Vikings adding Dallas to their active roster since they no longer have any practice squad elevations to use on him, and all of these thoughts about his signing being any sort of indication that a trade for a running back could potentially be in Minnesota's near future aren't any closer to becoming a reality than they were before the signing was even announced.
