The inevitable has finally happened for the Minnesota Vikings with Kyler Murray about to wear the No. 1 in the purple and gold, as it should be.

Minnesota has made it known with this signing that Murray is coming in to push J.J. McCarthy for the Vikings' starting quarterback job. It was a move that had been expected all offseason, but has finally become reality to the delight of every Vikings fan.

Now that all is out of the way, the rest of the offseason is going to be spent on dissecting the Vikings' quarterback room with more focus on Murray and McCarthy, but another quarterback on that roster might be in even more danger with the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback in town and looking to stay a long time.

Minnesota Vikings QB Max Brosmer might be in trouble in 2026

There was a ton of hype out of Vikings training camp about undrafted free agent quarterback Max Brosmer and how he could be a solid signal caller in the NFL. The local kid got everyone in Minnesota excited about his future in the NFL until he actually stepped on the field to start a game.

Brosmer was thrown into the fire in his first career start against the Seattle Seahawks last season, with Carson Wentz already out for the season with an injury and McCarthy injured for the second time. As anyone could have expected from an undrafted rookie, it did not go well: the Vikings lost 26-0, and he threw for 126 yards and four interceptions.

At least his second career start against the Detroit Lions on Christmas Day went a lot better as the team won, but the stats were not great. He completed just 56.3 percent of his 16 pass attempts for 51 yards.

To his credit, Brosmer did the best he could last season, but he was clearly not ready to step on an NFL field and should have been a practice-squad player at best. Not that it's his fault, as that falls on the coaching staff and head coach Kevin O'Connell for putting him on the field, but still, Brosmer was just not good enough to play.

While the Murray move is more about McCarthy, it's also a message to Brosmer to improve and to expect significant strides in Year 2. The Vikings have Brett Rypien and John Wolford on the roster, competing against Brosmer for the backup job.

The 2026 Vikings training camp is going to feature every quarterback fighting for jobs on the roster, with Murray and McCarthy going to get the most attention. Brosmer arguably has the tougher battle to hold off two veteran quarterbacks for the third-string job.

If the young quarterback out of the University of Minnesota can't step up, he might be sitting at home watching Vikings games on Sundays instead of standing on the sidelines.
