After the first eight weeks of the 2026 season, the Minnesota Vikings have a 6-1 record, but the enthusiasm about the team has definitely taken a hit following their loss to the Detroit Lions last Sunday.

Luckily, the Vikings have a great opportunity to quiet a lot of doubters in Week 9 when they host the Buffalo Bills for a Monday night matchup inside U.S. Bank Stadium. The Bills also have a 6-1 record, so this will easily be Minnesota's toughest matchup of the season so far.

In addition to Monday's game, the NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday, and there has been plenty of talk during the last few weeks about what deals the Vikings could and should make to improve their roster, especially at the quarterback position.

For more about possible Minnesota trades and Monday's big showdown against Buffalo, let's take a look at some of the most recent Vikings news to pop up online.

  1. Jordan Addison for Mac Jones?
  2. Adam Schefter keeping a close eye on Vikings QB situation
  3. Josh Metellus keeps it simple about Josh Allen
  4. Will Monday impact the Vikings' QB trade plans?

Jordan Addison for Mac Jones?

There are several quarterbacks that Minnesota fans have been talking about as trade possibilities before next Tuesday's deadline, and Mac Jones has definitely been part of the discussion.

Jones is currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers, where he's the No. 2 quarterback on the team's depth chart behind Brock Purdy.

During a recent stream on the YouTube channel of 49ers OnSi reporter Grant Cohn, guest Brandon Deutsch made the suggestion that San Francisco should call the Vikings and offer to trade Jones to Minnesota in exchange for wide receiver Jordan Addison.

"The 49ers [should] call up the Vikings and offer Mac Jones for Jordan Addison.

...[Jones is a] way bigger upgrade than Kyler Murray. Because at least Mac Jones can see the field; he's 6-4. He's not going to run around and not read defenses and twirl the entire game like Kyler Murray.

And he'll get the ball out quick, which I think helps Kevin O'Connell's system a lot because look who benefited in Kevin O'Connell's system: Kirk Cousins. Mac Jones is a very Kirk Cousins-esque quarterback."

Adam Schefter keeping a close eye on Vikings QB situation

No one is arguably more plugged in to what is going on behind the scenes in the NFL than ESPN's Adam Schefter. So when he says something notable, it's usually for a reason.

When talking on a recent episode of his podcast about what he's keeping an eye on leading up to Tuesday's trade deadline, Schefter made sure to let his listeners and viewers know that he will be closely monitoring what Minnesota decides to do at the quarterback position.

"I will just say, with everything going on, with Kyler Murray hurt, with Kyler Murray not producing, with the [Vikings'] offense struggling, with Carson Wentz potentially starting, I'll just say, with the Vikings trading away J.J. McCarthy, with all the questions, with everything, I'm watching the Vikings' quarterback position."

Josh Metellus keeps it simple about Josh Allen

Minnesota has a literal tall task on Monday when it comes to stopping Bills quarterback Josh Allen. On Friday, Vikings safety Josh Metellus was very straightforward when he was asked about what sets Allen's skill set apart from some of the other mobile quarterbacks around the NFL.

"He's just... big.

You talk about guys who are able to move, guys who are able to get out of the pocket, [and] break tackles, not all of them stand at 6-6 and can throw the ball 100 yards.

So, I think his ability to scramble but be able to touch every blade of grass on the field is what makes him Josh Allen."

Will Monday impact the Vikings' QB trade plans?

Even if they suffer a loss to Buffalo on Monday, Minnesota will still have a 6-2 record this season and have a solid shot at earning a spot in the 2026 playoffs.

However, ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio seems to think that a Vikings loss on Monday could result in the chances being higher that the team will make a trade for a quarterback before Tuesday's deadline.

"It may all come down to Monday night. If Minnesota wins, chances are nothing happens. If Minnesota loses, Tuesday could become a very interesting day."

Florio specifically mentioned that Minnesota trading for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones has recently become "a real possibility."

Jones was, of course, a member of the Vikings' practice squad for a portion of the 2024 season, so he should be pretty familiar with Kevin O'Connell's offense.

However, Jones has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL this season, and it won't matter how well he knows O'Connell's offense if he continues to play terribly.
